Training is included to prepare you for this role.
Care Assistant role:
- Duties and responsibilities may be varied and will be dependent on an individual’s care plan.
- Personal care may be delivered at any time of the night or day and may include (but is not necessarily limited to):
1. Washing the hands and face and may include washing the body (including intimate areas)
2. Bathing
3. Washing and styling the hair
4. Assistance with make-up and personal grooming
5. Shaving
6. Brushing the teeth and caring for dentures
7. Cleaning of and assistance with glasses or contact lenses
8. Assisting in or out of bed
9. Assisting to dress or undress
10. Assisting to prepare meals
11. Support to eat or drink
12. Assisting to use the toilet or a commode
13. Assisting to manage continence
14. Monitoring skin condition (e.g. pressure sores)
15. Assisting in moving from one position to another
16. Assisting to use aids to daily living and rehabilitation
17. Support with exercise (including rehabilitation exercises)
18. Use and care of hearing aids
19. Use and care of prosthetics, calipers etc.
20. Night sitting
21. Day sitting
Practical Support covering a broad range of tasks:
1. Washing up
2. Managing food and household stocks (e.g. rotating food in fridge)
3. Domestic cleaning (including vacuuming, dusting, polishing, cleaning bathrooms, kitchens etc.)
4. Making and changing beds
5. Clearing out refuse (including recycling)
6. Laundry and ironing
7. Management of thermostats, heating etc.
8. Shopping
9. Support with household management and personal finances (budgeting, bills etc.)
10. Support with maintaining personal relationships (e.g. birthdays, anniversaries, entertaining visitors)
11. Escorting on activities outside the home.
Health-related tasks may be required at any time day or night:
1. Administration of medicines (and appropriate recording and reporting thereof)
2. Catheter care
3. Stoma care
4. Bowel care
5. Use of eye drops
6. Application of ointments
7. Cutting of finger nails – this can be done as part of a care plan request.
8. Cutting of toenails/podiatry (must have specialist training to carry this out)
Specialist support may range of specialist service:
1. People with mental health needs
2. People with learning disabilities
3. People with dementia
4. People with physical disabilities
5. Disabled parents
6. People who are terminally ill or at the end of life.
Business support systems you will have responsibility for:
1. Updating service user notes on our digital system
2. Sharing service user information with branch via our digital system
3. Completing e-learning via our learning platform
Care Assistant pay:
£12.75 per hour.
