Join our UK-based Tax Centre of Expertise in Europe (Europe CoE) as a Senior Manager, Direct Tax.
In this role, you will oversee US tax reporting and local tax compliance for Germany and other European markets. You will also support global tax initiatives and transfer pricing efforts. Your key responsibilities include managing tax risks, ensuring accurate tax filings, meeting internal and jurisdictional deadlines, and efficiently managing resources to meet budget targets. Additionally, you will align global tax requirements with local regulations.
Key Responsibilities
* Oversee direct tax compliance and US tax reporting for Germany and other European markets.
* Plan and execute local tax compliance, including preparing and reviewing tax returns with internal and external resources.
* Serve as the German Tax Compliance Management System Officer, managing a risk register and reporting quarterly to the FD and General Manager.
* Manage tax audits including collaboration with local finance teams and corporate tax staff.
* Gather information for transfer pricing documentation in line with local rules.
* Provide tax support for local business operations.
* Advise heads of finance in local markets and educate business partners on tax legislation changes.
* Prepare US GAAP provision, projection and contingency reporting.
* Prepare cash flow budgets and projections related to taxes, supporting financial analysis.
* Maintain high internal control standards in compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley, corporate policies, local processes, and external requirements.
* Liaise with tax, finance, customs, treasury, legal, HR, and external advisers to ensure local compliance and assess risk areas.
* Utilize technology for effective tax return and provision calculations.
* Identify, research, and recommend solutions for potential tax issues.
* Manage and develop the tax team, ensuring appropriate staffing, training, and work allocation.
* Manage the external advisor budget, plan internal resourcing, and ensure transparency of required spending.
* Foster a high-performance culture emphasizing customer focus, teamwork, external orientation, and personal accountability.
* Collaborate effectively with other members of the team, including delegation and coaching junior members of staff.
Required Qualifications & Experience
* Degree and chartered tax advisor (local equivalent).
* Extensive professional experience in a multi-national corporate tax environment or equivalent, including tax compliance and reporting in at least one jurisdiction.
* Experience in global or regional roles.
* Experience in managing and developing staff.
Knowledge, Skills and Competences
* Business fluency in English and German, required.
* Proficient in accounting provisions, accounting principles, audit and disclosure requirements of financial statements.
* Understanding of US GAAP.
* Team player with good leadership skills who is confident in communicating with others and can work with minimal supervision.
* Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
* Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple projects and competing priorities in a time-sensitive environment.
* Encourage everyone to have a voice and invite opinion from all, including quieter members of the team.
* Deal effectively with ambiguous and unstructured problems and situations.
* Move easily between big picture thinking and managing relevant detail.
