We have an exciting opportunity in Central Area CAMHS for a Senior Practitioner working in Youth Justice Services. The Mental Health Practitioner for Youth Justice Services in Central CAMHS will have a solid understanding of the Mental Health Measure Wales 2010 and Social Care & Well-being Act 2014. You will have experience of managing a caseload of young people with complex mental health needs and providing evidence-based assessments and therapeutic treatment for these individuals.
Main duties of the job
The Senior Practitioner is accountable for the provision of effective, efficient and appropriate high-quality care for children and young people with mental health difficulties displaying high-risk behaviours to self and others and those involved with the criminal justice system.
Applicants should have a relevant professional and registered qualification relating to Health or Social Care e.g. in social work, Mental Health or Learning Disability, or Occupational Therapy and a high level of competence, knowledge and skills which is crucial to this role.
The successful applicant must be flexible, adaptable, and have a willingness to embrace change. The ability to use initiative when dealing with unexpected situations is also an advantage. Applicants should demonstrate evidence of their clinical understanding and decision-making skills; be a committed team player with the ability to prioritise their own workload, and work well under pressure. Good IT skills are essential with confidence in Outlook, Word and Excel.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Person specification
QUALIFICATIONS AND/OR KNOWLEDGE
* Registered Mental Health Nurse or Learning Disabilities Nurse/ Social Worker/ Occupational Therapist
* Clinical Master’s Degree or equivalent educational or experience indicating performance at master’s level
* Evidence of continuing professional development and/or achievement of or working towards post-graduate training in a relevant therapeutic modality e.g. Family Therapy/CBT/EMDR
EXPERIENCE
* Previous experience of working in CAMHS
* Experience of working with a wide range of CAMHS presentations across the age range.
* Experience of working with young people and families who are involved in the Youth Justice System.
* Experience of care planning and knowledge of the Mental Health Measure, Wales.
* Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary way.
* Experience in crisis work.
* Specialist CAMHS Forensic Mental Health experience.
* Experience of developing and delivering specialist training programmes.
