Job Title: Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) Specialist
Location: Hybrid (with 2 days in phs Caerphilly office)

Job Summary:
phs Group is seeking a skilled Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) Specialist to enhance our online presence and drive organic traffic to our digital platforms. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of SEO strategies, keyword research, and on-page and off-page optimisation techniques within a business-to-business (B2B) environment. This role will focus on improving search engine rankings, increasing visibility, and delivering measurable improvements in organic performance and return on investment (ROI).
The SEO Specialist will collaborate beyond Marketing, working closely with Sales, IT, and external partners to ensure SEO initiatives align with commercial goals, digital transformation, and customer engagement strategies. Additionally, this role will manage an SEO agency, setting clear KPIs, carrying out periodic performance reviews, and ensuring accountability for achieving high-quality link-building, content optimisation, and search performance improvements.
Key Responsibilities:
SEO Strategy and Execution: Develop and execute comprehensive SEO strategies, aligning with overall marketing objectives.
Conduct thorough keyword research to identify high-performing opportunities and optimise content accordingly.
Monitor, analyse, and improve search engine rankings and organic traffic.
On-Page Optimisation: Optimise website content, meta descriptions, title tags, and header tags to align with target keywords and best practices.
Ensure website pages follow technical SEO guidelines, including proper URL structures, image optimisation, and internal linking.
Work with content creators to develop SEO-friendly blogs, landing pages, and other digital content.
Off-Page Optimisation: Develop and implement link-building strategies to improve domain authority and organic visibility.
Manage an SEO agency to support with backlink strategies and ensure the acquisition of high-quality links.
Monitor and manage backlinks to ensure high-quality links and identify any toxic links for removal.
Technical SEO: Conduct regular website audits to identify and resolve technical issues affecting SEO performance (e.g., crawl errors, page speed, mobile friendliness).
Collaborate with web developers to implement technical improvements and site architecture enhancements.
Monitor and resolve issues related to site indexing, canonicalization, and XML sitemaps.
Performance Analysis and Reporting: Use tools such as Google Analytics, Google Search Console, Ahfres and other SEO platforms to track, measure, and report on SEO performance.
Provide insights and actionable recommendations based on data analysis to improve organic performance.
Prepare regular reports on KPIs, including traffic, rankings, and conversions.
Measurement of Success Lead Generation Growth: Increase in organic lead generation and inbound inquiries through SEO-driven strategies.
Search Visibility Improvement: Higher organic rankings and search engine presence, driving qualified traffic to phs Group websites.
Return on Investment (ROI): Improved cost efficiency of SEO efforts by increasing organic conversions and reducing reliance on paid search.
Content Performance: Increased engagement metrics, such as longer time on site, lower bounce rates, and improved click-through rates (CTR).
Backlink Quality & Authority: Growth in high-quality backlinks, leading to improved domain authority and credibility.
Technical SEO Success: Reduction in site errors, faster page speed, and improved mobile usability.
SEO Agency Management: Effective agency performance, measured by achieved KPIs, regular performance evaluations, and SEO campaign success.
Cross-Departmental Impact: Stronger collaboration with Sales, IT, and Customer Services, ensuring SEO strategies align with business-wide goals.
Key Skills/Experience/Qualifications Proven experience as an SEO Specialist or similar role, with a strong focus on organic search performance.
Demonstrated experience in a business-to-business setting is a must.
In-depth knowledge of search engine algorithms, ranking factors, and SEO best practices.
Experience with SEO tools such as Google Analytics, Google Search Console, SEMrush, Ahrefs, or similar platforms.
Strong technical SEO skills, including familiarity with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript basics.
Excellent analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex data sets.
Strong communication skills with the ability to present findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
Experience collaborating with content, design, and development teams.
Knowledge of local SEO strategies and practices.
Degree in Marketing, Digital Marketing, or a related field (preferred).
Minimum 3-5 years of hands-on SEO experience.
Google Analytics certification is a plus.
