Job summary
We are looking for a clinical support worker with suitable theatre experience or willing to learn the role of a clinical support worker. The successful applicant will work within our busy operating theatre department at James Cook University Hospital which has 19 theatres in the main operating department, with a 10 bed recovery suite. Within the theatre suite there are 2 emergency theatres and a dedicated paediatric theatre.
Post holders will be appointed at band 2 or band 3 depending upon qualifications.
Band 2 requirements - willingness to undertake all relevant training and qualifications if wishing to develop into a band 3 role.
Band 3 requirements - Numeracy and Literacy Level 2 or GCSE equivalent (A-C/ 4-9)

There is a clear framework to allow for postholders to develop from a band 2 to band 3 and this includes completion of the qualifications.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will be working within the Neuro and spinal portfolio assisting and caring for patients undergoing surgery.
The role of a clinical support worker higher level within the theatre department is a specialised and extremely interesting and rewarding role. As a support worker you will be directly impacting on the quality of care we provide to patients undergoing a surgical procedure.
As a clinical support worker working within a team you will set up and ensure theatre is ready for the day, setting up for elective procedures, checking equipment and ensuring theatre is prepared for the patient. During a procedure the scrub practitioner and Surgeons will be scrubbed and therefore will rely on your knowledge and skills to circulate the theatre alongside a theatre practitioner. You will be expected to gain good understanding of the surgical procedures and the Neuro and spinal speciality as a whole. You will be fully supported by the theatre sisters and theatre manager and we will endeavour to bring the best out of you and this role will promise to be challenging and demanding but very rewarding.
