Job overview
The Post Holder will have extensive Learning Disability experience and a keen interest in developing the service for adults. They will be able to demonstrate expertise and clinical leadership in the Learning Disability field.
To provide strong professional leadership, ensuring that care is planned and delivered to a high standard, is evidence-based, evaluated regularly and delivered in a timely manner.
Main duties of the job
1. To provide clinical leadership for junior staff within the Community Learning Disability Team.
2. To act as a mentor and positive role model for all staff, helping others to identify their current knowledge and skills, learning needs and preferences.
3. To integrate evidence-based practice and skilful use of assessment and interventions that promote the principles of recovery in order to improve the service user’s quality of life by enabling greater hope, control and opportunities.

High-Cost Area Supplement
This post also attracts payment for High-Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,551 and a maximum payment of £5,735) pro rata for part-time staff.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. Providing management, supervision and support to the clinical team.
2. Being responsible for developing and implementing high standards of clinical care, ensuring the service provided is needs led, compliant with national guidance and viewed positively by service users.
3. Participate fully in the work of the Directorate / Senior Management team.
Person specification
Qualifications
* RNMH, RNLD and any relevant graduate training, Registration with relevant professional body’s.
* Other relevant Training.
Experience
* Experience of providing professional teaching and training of other professionals working with clients with a Learning Disability within the service and other related agencies.
* Experience of initiating, organising and planning inter-agency meetings and managing clinical services.
* Experience of working with clients who are disturbed or have challenging needs requiring skilled and complex interventions.
* Ability to perform under pressure, quickly and effectively, making managerial decisions and following through agreed care pathways.
* To ensure that risk assessment / management procedures are implemented including Safeguarding Adult Procedures.
Knowledge
* The 1983 Mental Health Act and related legislation, codes of practice and guidance (Amended 2007).
* Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Knowledge of the care act Understanding of.
* Safeguarding processes Excellent working knowledge of Mental Health / Learning Disabilities Strategy and related legislation.
* Knowledge and understanding of the Care Act 2014.
* Understanding of relevant policy guidance related to Learning Disabilities.
Skills
* Basic awareness of IT and IT skills.
* Ability to lead and direct teams and perform activities.
* Ability to facilitate positive multi-disciplinary working relationships across service areas.
* Specialist skill in the ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the Learning Disability team.
* Able to form good working relationships with others in multi-disciplinary and inter-agency settings.

* To be able to travel efficiently throughout the area.
* To be flexible, supportive to the service and if required to take on new roles appropriate to knowledge, education and skills.
