Key Tasks and Responsibilities of the Post:
1. Utilise nursing skills to assess, plan, implement, and deliver care to patients who are in an acute phase of their illness.
2. Organise the provision of care and act as Named Nurse/Associate Nurse for a specified group of patients.
3. Function as a member of a multidisciplinary team, taking appropriate responsibility for the implementation of decisions made by the team.
4. Ensure planned nursing care is implemented and evaluated, taking appropriate action in light of evaluation.
5. Participate in training programmes for both trained and untrained staff.
6. In conjunction with the university and Senior Staff Nurses, ensure training programmes/objectives for learner nurses are implemented.
7. Be responsible for implementing drug administration procedures according to laid down policy.
8. Maintain standards of care to the highest level within available resources.
9. Maintain confidentiality in respect to the patient at all times.
10. Actively participate in line management with senior and junior members of staff.
11. Liaise effectively with other wards and services.
12. Develop and maintain relationships with providers, both statutory and non-statutory.
13. Communicate clearly with patients, their families, and all other mental health professional groups about their health problems and care plan.
14. Actively participate in clinical governance and quality improvement initiatives, e.g., clinical audit or clinical policy development.
15. Play an active role in CPA multidisciplinary reviews and ward rounds, reporting on the nursing assessment of the patient's progress and participating further in M/D Care Planning.
16. Encourage patients to play a part in the Care Plan and to sign it; ensuring they receive a copy of it to promote person-centred planning.
17. Provide mentorship for students.
18. Attend and participate in meetings, e.g., Case Conference, Mental Health review tribunals.
19. Actively participate and provide clinical supervision.
20. Have a working knowledge of Plymouth Community HealthCare Policies and Guidance.
21. Actively participate in rotation programme across the Locality.
22. Have a working knowledge of specific policies relating to your work area, i.e., seclusion policy, ECT policy, Safeguarding, and be able to apply this in practice.
23. Work within NMC Code of Conduct regarding documentation and ensure compliance with the Trust clinical record keeping policy.
24. Participate and undertake in the appraisal process.
25. Have a competent and robust knowledge of legislation including Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, and Deprivation of Liberty.
26. Support the induction and Preceptorship programme.
27. Ensure mandatory training is up to date and be able to undertake in their own workplace.
28. Assess and manage risk for their personal safety and the safety of their colleagues within the relevant policies.
29. Work in accordance with the NMC guidelines around CPD and be able to evidence this via a portfolio.
30. At all times, work within the NMC Code of Conduct.
31. Assume responsibility as delegated by a senior member of staff.
32. Participate in coordinator/duty rota as required.
33. Participate in new service developments, such as Place of Safety and Nurse Lead discharge.
34. Comply with all infection control policies and guidance, attend relevant updates, and report issues of concern to their immediate line manager (if no action or explanation received, then it is the individual's responsibility to escalate to Director of Operations / Chief Executive office).
