About the Role
As a Quality Engineer at UKAEA, you will be a key member of the Quality Management team, providing assurance, advice, and oversight across a defined operational area. Your role will be to develop, maintain and improve quality systems, ensuring all products, services, and processes meet the highest standards.
You will play a crucial part in influencing operational and project teams, supporting improvements, conducting root cause analysis, and promoting a culture of continuous quality excellence.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and support quality improvement initiatives and drive continuous improvement activities.
* Manage and control deviations, non-conformances and ensure timely resolution.
* Conduct root cause analysis and lead corrective action investigations.
* Provide expert quality guidance and support across teams and stakeholders.
* Contribute to project quality assurance aligned with the delivery lifecycle.
* Ensure supplier QA/QC requirements are clearly defined and monitored.
* Participate in the creation and refinement of FMEA, control plans, and inspection/test plans.
* Perform surveillance and inspection activities both on-site and at supplier locations.
* Monitor and report on quality performance metrics.
* Deliver training to enhance quality awareness and capability across the business.
What We're Looking For
Qualifications
* Degree (or equivalent) in Engineering or a Science-based discipline.
* Membership of the Chartered Quality Institute (CQI) or similar professional body is desirable.
Experience
* 5+ years' experience in quality assurance in an industrial, engineering or laboratory setting.
* Solid understanding of ISO9001 and quality management systems.
* Familiar with QA grading, Lifetime Quality Records, and relevant industrial codes and standards.
* Strong background in project quality support and product development.
* Proficient in problem solving methodologies such as A3, DMAIC.
* Experience in process mapping or value stream mapping is advantageous.
* 1st or 2nd party audit experience is desirable.
* Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with a pragmatic and detail-oriented mindset.
