The post holder will lead and manage the Occupational Therapy Service in collaboration with the Therapies SLCM. The post holder is responsible for ensuring:
1. Compassionate leadership, promoting an effective culture in line with UHP staff charter.
2. The environment is one in which excellence in clinical care will flourish, services are patient-centered, and a culture of continuous quality improvement is developed in line with UHP strategic priorities.
3. Preparation of business plans and advising where/how Occupational Therapy services fit into wider hospital changes and developments.
4. Ensuring that projected capacity, waiting list, and quality targets are being met within agreed financial (including budgetary) constraints, adhering to corporate policies and procedures for service level agreements and commissioned contracts for all areas of responsibility.
5. All student contracts are in place and met, optimizing the availability of services for the benefit of patients, and making appropriate contingency arrangements if normal service cannot be provided.
6. Determining and implementing meaningful IT systems capable of delivering reports to support operational management and planning for the Occupational Therapy service.
7. Supporting the development of effective workforce planning within the profession.
8. Providing appropriate demand forecasts to the Workforce Development Confederations to secure funding for training and development.
9. Being proactive and innovative in developing alternative delivery of patient care within the service and with other professions.
10. Coordinating, instigating, and facilitating research and development projects in the department.
11. Developing and implementing business plans in line with UHP strategic ambition to support the Trusts and the Occupational Therapy services Strategic Development.
12. Acting as the professional advisor for other Occupational Therapists employed within the Trust.
13. Maintaining clinical involvement and protected clinical time within the appropriate clinical area.
14. Ensuring effective performance management arrangements are adhered to for the Occupational Therapy service and staff, covering general and clinical risk including health and safety standards; assessing risks and implementing necessary actions to minimize them.
15. Enabling staff to attend statutory and essential training, ensuring familiarity with the Risk Management Strategy, following policies and procedures, and taking necessary actions to reduce risk.
16. Managing individual performance arrangements/appraisals of staff, including communication, staff involvement, training and development, dealing with disciplinary issues, complaints, and responding to reported incidents.
17. Liaising with the legal department in the provision of Occupational Therapy patient notes.
18. Coordinating the support of undergraduate students (Physiotherapy students on clinical placements and Medical Students via SSUs).
19. Monitoring, implementing, and reporting on clinical governance.
