Circular Resourcing are recruiting for a Project Manager to join a Developer / Operator of Utility Scale Solar & Storage projects in the UK.
Ideally you will be based in the North West of England or be ok spending a good portion of your time here as this is where the majority of the projects are based.
Role: Senior Project Manager – BESS construction
Location: Flexible, with travel to sites and head office in London
Reports To: Technical Director
Permanent role: strong salary, bonus and car allowance (client would also consider Freelance/contractor)
About the company
* The company constructs and operates flexible generation assets, such as BESS and gas peakers, capitalizing on the exponential growth of renewables and supporting the transition to net zero.
* They currently have upwards of 500 MW in Operation / Construction phases, with a further 2.5GW within the Development Pipeline across the UK.
* Initially you will take responsibility for the construction of a 75 MW BESS project in North West England, with more projects progressing to delivery soon, including grid connection of data centres.
Job description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Project Manager to lead the buildout of a portfolio of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) connecting at up to 400 kV, as well as oversee the future development and construction of renewable energy projects and data centres.
* The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in HV infrastructure construction, and renewable energy engineering, with excellent project management capabilities and track record of delivered projects.
* Whilst open on background – a strong knowledge in Civil Engineering would be desirable.
Key Responsibilities
Project Delivery:
• Take projects from development status through to construction, commissioning, and handover to the operations team.
• Lead the design, build, and grid connection of battery storage systems and data centres.
Stakeholder Management:
• Liaise with local planning authorities, the grid operator, subcontractors, and suppliers.
• Manage EPC, MF1, and NEC3 contracts, ensuring delivery against timelines and budgets.
Technical Oversight:
• Collaborate with engineering teams, demonstrating strong electrical, civils and general engineering knowledge.
• Review technical drawings, designs and project documentation using software like Microsoft Project, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and SketchUp.
Budget Control:
• Manage project budgets, process invoices, obtain quotes, and raise purchase orders.
• Work closely with the finance department to ensure financial accountability.
Reporting:
• Provide weekly progress updates to the Technical Director.
• Present monthly highlight reports to the board of directors.
Health, Safety, and Compliance:
• Ensure compliance with CDM regulations and health and safety standards.
• Promote a strong safety culture, maintaining awareness of NEBOSH or SMSTS standards.
Travel:
• Visit sites as required (England NW) and attend meetings at the head office in London.
Requirements
Experience:
• Proven experience in leading delivery of HV infrastructure, renewable energy, flexible generation, or similar industries.
• Demonstrable expertise in grid connections, engineering, and energy storage systems.
• Track record of managing EPC contracts and working alongside subcontractors. Provide details of at least two projects delivered from development to commissioning.
Technical Skills:
• Strong understanding of civil and electrical engineering principles and grid connection requirements.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Project and CA software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, SketchUp).
Project Management Skills:
• Ability to manage budgets, procurement, and financial processes.
• Skilled at stakeholder engagement and ensuring alignment across multidisciplinary teams.
Health and Safety Knowledge:
• NEBOSH or SMSTS qualification (preferred).
• Comprehensive understanding of CDM 2015 regulations and site safety.
Soft Skills:
• Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
• Ability to protect company’s interest in negotiations.
• High level of organizational skills and attention to detail.
Additional Requirements:
• Willingness to travel as required, initially England NW and weekly to London.
