The Job:
An opportunity has arisen for a Trout Farm Manager to take full responsibility for the daily operations and management of a well-established trout farm in Scotland. This hands-on role demands strong leadership, operational expertise, and a deep understanding of fish farming practices to ensure high productivity, fish welfare, and environmental compliance. The successful candidate will oversee fish health, stock management, and farm operations while also leading and developing a team of staff. Key responsibilities include managing feeding schedules, stock movements, and harvesting while ensuring that water quality, biosecurity, and environmental conditions are maintained to the highest standards. In addition, the Farm Manager will be responsible for the grading and harvesting of fish to meet production targets and quality requirements, playing a vital role in the farm’s ongoing success.
As a leader, the Farm Manager will drive team performance, providing training and mentoring to improve efficiency and fish care while upholding strict health and safety protocols. They will also oversee the maintenance of boats, nets, and farm infrastructure, ensuring all equipment is fully operational and meets farm requirements. Compliance with industry regulations, including fish welfare, environmental management, and biosecurity measures, will be a key priority, with accurate record-keeping and regular liaison with suppliers, regulatory bodies, and senior management. 5. Ability to maintain high standards of fish welfare and farm efficiency
6. Hands-on, practical approach with a proactive problem-solving mindset
7. Powerboat or marine qualifications
8. Experience with hatchery management and stock breeding programs
9. Knowledge of industry regulations and compliance reporting
