Job purpose: To increase guest satisfaction by providing prompt, efficient, trouble-free and courteous service to guests in the hotel bar area in line with departmental and resort guidelines

REPORTS TO: C&E Operations Manager / Duty Manager / Assistant Bar Manager / Bar Supervisor
About The Role
Main duties:
PROVIDE THE HIGHEST STANDARDS OF SERVICE TO GUESTS
* Serves bar guests their orders promptly and courteously
* Accurately records and serves guest orders
* Ensures proper garnishing of drinks and serving ie doily and beer mat
* Checks periodically with guests to see if they would like anything else
* Informs guests of last orders
* Processes guest checks accurately
* Arranges furniture in the bar area as needed
* Ensures that the working area and station is stocked with “mise-en-place” and kept clean and tidy at all times
* Maintains a thorough knowledge of the bar menu, wine and beer list and content of drinks to be able to advise guests on selection and promote additional sales accordingly
* Promotes additional sales by taking opportunities to up-sell, in a manner that is professional and courteous
* Confers with the Bar & Lounge Manager concerning set-ups and reservations
* Knows how to handle intoxicated individuals
* Has full knowledge of alcohol and liquor policies and regulations, and complies fully with these
* Checks the restaurant reservations list frequently during the shift
* Provides service of food and beverage to guests at wedding, functions, private dinners etc
* Maintains high confidentiality in regards to guest privacy
* Notifies the Bar & Lounge Manager and Head Housekeeper regarding lost and found objects
SECURITY, HEALTH AND SAFETY
o Ensures that own cash is secure at all times
o Ensures all discrepancies in own cash are declared to the Bar & Lounge Manager and Financial Controller
o Reports all potential and real hazards appropriately
o Fully understands the hotel’s fire, emergency and bomb procedures
o Follows emergency procedures to provide for the security and safety of guests and employees
o Works in a safe manner that does not harm or injure self or others
o Supports a safe hotel by applying hotel regulations and adhering to existing laws and regulations
o Maintains the highest standards of personal hygiene, dress, uniform, appearance, body language and conduct
MISCELLANEOUS
o Stays current with activities in the hotel by reviewing the communication notice board each shift; updates notice board for next shift
o Assists the Bar & Lounge Manager/Duty Manager when requested
o Attends meetings and training required by the Food & Beverage Manager
o Accepts flexible work schedule necessary for uninterrupted service to hotel guests
o Continuously seeks to endeavour professionalism in own job function
o Knows:
+ Hotel fire, bomb and emergency procedures
+ Hotel health and safety policies and procedures
+ Hotel facilities and nearby sights of interest and importance (ie hospitals, stations, tourist sights)
+ Hotel and corporate marketing and promotional programs
+ Corporate clients and clients generating high business volume
o May be required to carry out additional duties not listed to suit the business demands

Desired Criteria
* Experience in a public facing position, preferable food & beverage ie pubs, restaurants
* Knowledge of wines and spirits
* Food Handlers Certificate
* First Aid Certificate
* Has positive sales attitude
* Displays commitment to completion of tasks, requires little motivation
Required Criteria
* Must have a friendly and open disposition
* Excellent customer service skills
* Strong interpersonal communication skills with an outgoing personality
* Ability to work well under pressure
* Is confident, patient, friendly, sociable and reliable
* Has a positive approach to directions – giving and taking
* Has ability to work as part of a team and use own initiative
* GCSE Maths & English (Grade C or above) or equivalent]
* One year’s previous experience in a bar/restaurant environment
* Previous experience of operating a computerised till system
* Can prioritise duties
* Strong numerical skills
* Must be able to recall drink orders
* Must be able to travel to work
* Able and willing to work at short notice if required
* Must be flexible with working hours and available to work unsociable hours including : days/evenings & weekend shifts Monday – Sunday
