Behaviour Support Assistant (SEMH)

Are you passionate about supporting young people with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? Do you have the skills and resilience to work with students who require tailored behavioural and emotional support? We are currently seeking a dedicated Behaviour Support Assistant to join a welcoming secondary school in Barnet. This is a full-time, long-term role, starting as soon as possible, where you will provide tailored support to students with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour.
Key Responsibilities of Behaviour Support Assistant:
1. Build positive, trusting relationships with students to support their emotional well-being and engagement in learning.
2. Implement effective behaviour management strategies.
3. Work closely with teachers, pastoral staff, and external professionals to provide holistic support.
4. Assist in creating a safe, inclusive learning environment where all students feel valued and understood.
5. Support students in developing social and emotional skills to promote confidence, resilience, and positive decision-making.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. A good understanding of mental health and behaviour management strategies.
2. Experience working with young people with challenging behaviour, preferably in a school or youth work setting.
3. A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to supporting students with additional needs.
4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with students and staff.
5. A professional and proactive mindset, with a commitment to safeguarding and inclusion.
6. Relevant qualifications (e.g., Psychology, Education, Youth Work) are advantageous but not essential.
Strong graduates with a relevant background (e.g., Psychology, Education, Youth Work) are encouraged to apply.
