More systems are being developed and delivered for Type 26 and Type 31 Frigates. The Engineering Manager is a member of the Project Leadership Team, complementing the Project Manager and Technical Manager. This role is internally focussed, combining engineering judgement and leadership with the ability to co-ordinate, plan, control and deliver a project. A few of our employee benefits are: - Hybrid working where possible -We do require you to be on-site 60% of the time across the month (up to 3 days per week on average) - Half day finish on a Friday - 25 days holiday per year (plus bank holidays), increasing with long service and with the opportunity to buy/sell up to 5 days - Private medical insurance with optional family cover - Pension scheme of up to 7% employer contribution - Life Assurance 4x salary (flexible up to 10x) - Group income protection - Flexible opt-in extras such as a health care cash plan, dental insurance, gym membership, critical illness cover and cycle to work scheme - Employee assistance program providing mental health and wellbeing support What the role will involve The responsibilities of your role will include the following: - Daily tasking and coordination of the engineering team, ensuring the team is progressing as required against the plan and issues are identified and if required resolved through collaboration with the project leadership team - Engineering Management and problem solving - ensuring that the team is following the agreed project delivery lifecycle and any problems are identified, understood and resolved - Developing an achievable schedule which is agreed with all parties and approved for the team to work against - Establish and maintain the overall project plan/schedule (Gantt) using MS Project and project deliverables list using MS Excel, Sharepoint or other appropriate tools - Ensuring time recording is accurate against activities on the project - Provides reporting to the Leadership Team (including ETC, EAC and forecast completion/delivery dates) - Extracts resource requirements from the plan and provides demand through the project managers to facilitate resourcing allocation meetings - Documents and controls the baseline for the project - Controls risk associated with the project through: Identification; Documentation; Impact Analysis; Planning and Execution of Mitigations - Facilitates change through providing estimated effort and schedule impact incorporating approved change into project schedule and technical baseline coordinating the change process - Conducting lessons learned evaluations to continually improve approaches and seek efficiencies What you'll bring The role requires the following experience and skills: - Wealth of proven experience in an Engineering Management, Project Engineer or Technical Manager role - Experience and knowledge of Systems Engineering disciplines such as Verification and Validation methods, the importance of contractual compliance and system or systems integration. - Understanding and experience of Engineering lifecycles, specifically V-Model Lifecycle. - Technical understanding of the product under development - Ideally Software Engineering bias - Proven leadership abilities - People coordination, excellent communication skills, motivation and tasking - Proficient with Microsoft Project, Microsoft Office Applications and Microsoft SharePoint Important to know Due to the nature of our work many our roles require a UK nationality and the ability to obtain a security clearance.
