We are looking for someone with knowledge and experience as an Engineering Technician (Mechanical Planner) to support the United States Air Force, 422 Civil Engineer Squadron located at Royal Air Force (RAF) Croughton, United Kingdom. The primary purpose of this position is to provide programming and base development technical mechanical engineering support services for the Operations Element, including, but not limited to, the Sustainment Program, the Corrosion Control Program, and the Preventive Maintenance Program, with design drafting services and performing design review of the mechanical engineering portion of all projects to ensure compliance with base comprehensive plans and programmes.
About the Role:
You will be responsible for evaluating clients’ requests for new construction, renovation, and improvements of real property facilities including utility systems, by using and applying technical mechanical engineering knowledge in developing, preparing, monitoring, and maintaining programming documents. This will include major project design reviews and recommendations for approval. You will plan charts for the accomplishment of operations and maintenance (O&M) manual review, development and review of Base Standards, and other duties as assigned by the Requirements and Optimization Chief. In addition, you will coordinate projects with engineers in a variety of disciplines and/or with architects and work with organizational managers, budget personnel, and engineering/architectural authorities to develop and gain approval for proposed facility programs/projects. Your hours of work will be 37.5 hours per week on a fixed schedule Monday-Friday, 0800-1630, where start & end times may be modified due to mission needs and in accordance with the organization’s flexible working policies.
About You:
You will need general and practical knowledge of engineering concepts, methods, principles, practices, and techniques; familiarity with engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical, structural, utilities, etc.) and knowledge of standard contracting regulations, practices, and procedures. In addition, knowledge of program planning and budgeting cycles, financial control, and budget systems; work classifications and the regulatory and statutory restrictions on the expenditures of appropriated and non-appropriated funds; automated data processing system capabilities and economic usage to effectively accomplish assigned functions is required. You must have knowledge of analytical and diagnostic methods, procedures, and principles and surveying methods, equipment, and techniques of measurements to identify project requirements and the ability to plan and record site/facility surveys and inspections. You will also need to have the ability to research, analyze, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, codes of practice and procedures in a variety of situations and recommend timely and economical solutions.
Qualification Requirements:
* Specialized experience in a related field.
* Must possess an HND/HNC/BTEC, City and Guilds, NVQ or equivalent technical qualification in building and civil engineering/mechanical and electrical engineering and/or construction management, as well as sound experience of building construction and maintenance project management procedures, gained by at least three year’s work experience in the trade.
* A valid UK category B Driving license.
* Must be GAS SAFE registered and trained to correct ACOPS standards in order to competently plan work for projects involving gas fuelled installations.
* You must hold, or be capable of obtaining, an electrical skilled person’s certificate within the probation period.
Other Significant Facts About the Role:
You will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules and regulations. You may be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft, and you may also be required to travel to the US or other country, in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training. This position may also be coded as mission essential. You will be required to complete a 6-month probationary period. Overtime may be required, and you may be assigned other duties not included in this position description, but that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the incumbent. You will need to familiarize yourself with a variety of software packages in use by 422 CES; some training may be necessary to obtain the required proficiency. You will be required to have the knowledge of numerous regulations and codes of work. Attendance at various courses may be required to keep you up to date with new practices, materials and safety legislation. You will need to hold a handheld two-way radio or alternative method of onsite communication. You may be required to wear personal protective equipment when performing on-site inspections.
