Job summary An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Registered Nurse to join the Neurological Research Unit at Cardiff and Vale UHB to support the MND trial initiatives that are planned for the next 2 years. The Neuroscience Research Unit provides a high quality clinical environment in which patients and healthy subjects undergo research studies safely and effectively according to robust, ethically approved trial protocols. The post holder will assist the NRU nurse manager in ensuring the day to day management of the Unit and will have responsibility for the delivery of direct and indirect care and associated data collection for multiple Motor Neurone Disease research studies. The South Wales Motor Neurone Disease Care and Research Network is an established and proven service consisting of five Care Coordinators who develop, manage and work with specialist MND MDT clinics and community services based in each Local Health Board (LHB) to provide person-centred care for people living with MND and their carers/families across South Wales. Alongside its focus on value-based health care, the Network has established strong links with UK-wide Centres of Excellence in MND research and currently has a substantial portfolio which continues to rapidly expand. Working closely with Health Care Research Wales and Cardiff University, there is ambition to further increase the range of MND studies being conducted Main duties of the job The post will contribute to the assessment and management of the care pathways for patients and carers participating in clinical trials. This will include the recruitment, education, monitoring of trial patients, the collection and documentation of accurate data. The post holder will be working with Lead Nurses and multidisciplinary teams within the Clinical Boards and Directorates as well as the wider research teams assisting with the management of a caseload of clinical trials patients. The post will assess and carry out clinical procedures for patients/participants and will be considered part of the clinical team during the participants' involvement with the study. Implementing a programme of care, providing advice and will maintain records within various settings. The post holder will have a specialist knowledge in research and/or clinical practice enabling the post holder to work independently e.g either previous experience as a clinical research nurse or specialist knowledge within a specific disease area meeting the service needs such as diabetes/mental health. As part of the Research and Development team the post holder will contribute to the efficient set up and delivery of research within the UHB contributing to the performance metrics set for the UHB.
