Main duties of the job

We’re seeking a proactive and experienced individual to be part of our secretarial team. With your initiative, expertise, and forward-thinking approach, you’ll maintain the highest standards of service, delivering positive outcomes for both patients and the Trust.
As the key point of contact for patients, consultants, and other service users, you’ll play a central role in ensuring seamless communication and service delivery. Your responsibilities will also include managing waiting lists, patient target lists, and theatre schedules, as well as arranging theatre cancellations and adjustments in line with Trust policies. By balancing local and national targets with patient needs, you’ll ensure smooth operations and excellent care standards.

Qualifications
* Educated to GCSE level or equivalent including English and Mathematics at grades C/4 or above
* RSA/OCR stage III (or equivalent) word processing or audio typing.
* ECDL
* NVQ level 3
Experience
* Significant relevant medical secretarial experience.
* Experience in audio typing.
* Accuracy of spelling and grammar.
* Medical terminology.
* Previous experience of managing an inpatient waiting list.
* Experience of working with patient pathways and the 18-week referral to treatment target.
* Previous experience of Trust data systems.
* Good knowledge of office practice and procedures.
Further Training
* Clear understanding of patient confidentiality.
* Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines.
* Awareness of medical records issues e.g. Data Protection.
* Good computer and keyboard skills with the ability to use Microsoft packages including Word.
* Exceptional communication and organisational skills.
* Flexible approach to working.
* Methodical.
