Gray AES is looking for a Sr. Vision Engineer to join our team in our Lexington, KY Office!
Responsibilities
A Sr. Vision Engineer Level I to support our Advanced Automation team for designing and implementing innovative outcome-based solutions for our market-leading enterprise customers. We are looking for someone to join the team with proven experience developing technical solutions in the areas of robotics, autonomous mobile robots, vision systems as well as other advanced automation technologies.
The Sr. Vision Engineer role is a technical position in a fast-paced, challenging, and positive work environment conceptualizing, quoting, and executing design services related to robotic and advanced automation equipment or cells.
Accountabilities
* Interface with customers to understand and document their challenges.
* Clearly and concisely communicate proposed solutions and benefits to customers.
* Develop 2D and 3D conceptual drawings of automated work cells.
* Develop equipment and labor budget for proposed solutions.
* Work with technology suppliers to stay current on technologies and develop new technologies.
* Maintain clear design coordination between all Gray AES services such as OT, Automation, Robotics, Digital Transformation and Process/Packaging teams.
* Ability to work independently and in a team environment on fast-track projects displaying a strong capability in being self-sufficient to learn and implement new technologies or solutions.
Qualifications
What we expect… (Essential Functions)
* BS in Mechanical, Industrial or Electrical Engineering is preferred; other engineering disciplines will be considered based on relevant experience.
* 15+ years of experience developing and implementing automation systems including industrial or collaborative robots, autonomous mobile robots, vision systems, etc.
* Clear and effective communication skills to support proactive coordination and reduction to practice of physical designs across all project disciplines.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills required for customer interaction at a functional and technical level.
* Experience designing robotic work cells, mounts, conveyors, end of arm tooling, and custom tooling or fixturing.
* Basic knowledge of pneumatic, electrical and communications control systems.
* Experience in advanced automation technology such as industrial and collaborative robotics, automated guided vehicles (AGV or AMR’s) as well as machine vision applications and any of their related hardware.
* General knowledge of industry standard specifications, tools, and procedures.
* Ability to accurately provide engineering direction, whether verbal or written.
* Software:
o Demonstrated capability to learn and apply software including writing code.
o Familiarity with AutoCAD, and mid-level skills in 3D modeling software applications such as Inventor and SolidWorks.
o Proficiency with Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.), and other commonly found PC driven software tools.
o Familiarity with design and application of Industrial Control systems utilizing common industrial focused programming software.
o Familiarity with robotic simulation software such as RoboDK, ROBOGUIDE, etc.
* Energetic, self-motivated individual who enjoys a team environment, with a passion for collaboration and professional development.

Specific vision abilities include accurate near and distant vision.
Frequently in a normal office environment where noise level is moderate and temperature/humidity is controlled. Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and outside weather conditions. May be exposed to high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold and/or heat, risk of electrical shock, explosives and vibrations. Noise level on the job site is normally moderate to loud. Overtime will be required. Some travel will be required.
