Commercial Manager

Our client currently has requirements for a Commercial Manager to join their Birmingham team on a permanent basis.
Role Purpose:
Reporting to the Senior Commercial Manager, the main purpose of the role is to lead and manage the commercial team working within your allocated portfolio of projects, from inception through to final account and close out, to deliver maximum commercial results.
Responsibilities:
1. Working with the Senior Commercial Manager to lead, manage, develop, and train the commercial teams across your portfolio of projects.
2. Raise commercial awareness and embed commercial focus and best practices across each project team.
3. Lead on all contractual matters from inception to close out via in-depth understanding of the contract and its implications for profit delivery.
4. Assist in the preparation of contract documents, including bills of quantities, specifications, and drawings.
5. Manage the Risk & Opportunities process to identify risks and opportunities during the tender and construction phases and ensure the Commercial function delivers contractual solutions and strategies that balance these risks and opportunities.
6. Establish robust project life cycle cost forecasts updated monthly and monitored against agreed targets.
7. Proactively drive the recording of all contractual entitlements, ensure timely notification of events, and accurate pricing and substantiation of change.
Experience/Skills:
1. Experience in a finance or commercial function within the engineering or construction sector, with hands-on experience working for contractors as a Commercial Manager on large civils or infrastructure projects.
2. Minimum of 5 years of Commercial Management experience as a Commercial Manager or SQS with a proven track record in major projects.
3. A degree in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) or the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).
