About the Role
Are you passionate about supporting young people in their academic journey and personal development? A mainstream college in Bromley (BR2) is seeking a Student Achievement Tutor to play a pivotal role in guiding students towards achieving their goals, overcoming barriers, and progressing onto successful futures.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Deliver engaging weekly group tutorials covering safeguarding, pastoral care, careers, social action, and study skills.
2. Conduct one-to-one sessions with students to identify SMART targets and progression opportunities.
3. Monitor student engagement with key study programme elements, including work experience, enrichment activities, and career development initiatives.
4. Work closely with curriculum teams to implement attendance and behaviour interventions, liaising with external agencies and parents/carers where necessary.
5. Provide pastoral support as the first point of contact for students, ensuring the necessary interventions and support systems are in place.
6. Track student progress and ensure timely interventions for those at risk of non-achievement.
7. Support students in their UCAS applications and personal statement writing in collaboration with the Careers Team.
8. Promote student engagement by facilitating voice initiatives and enrichment activities.
9. Ensure all students receive a thorough induction into college life.
Requirements:
Essential:
1. Minimum of Level 2 literacy and numeracy qualifications.
2. Experience working with young people in an educational or mentoring capacity.
3. Strong understanding of the challenges facing young people today.
4. Ability to deliver engaging group sessions and conduct one-to-one support meetings.
5. Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with students, staff, and external organisations.
6. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, maintaining a calm and professional approach under pressure.
7. Commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity, and continuous professional development.
Desirable:
1. A relevant degree, e.g., youth work, education, or social work.
2. Experience in further education (FE) settings.
3. Understanding of multi-agency safeguarding frameworks.
