The Director of Finance will play a pivotal role in ensuring the financial sustainability of UWC Atlantic while supporting its mission to deliver a transformative education.
The role will focus on providing strategic financial leadership, strengthening financial planning and analysis, and enhancing systems to ensure transparency and long-term resilience. The post-holder will work collaboratively across the College and with key external stakeholders to identify opportunities for generating revenue, improving systems and processes to make savings in time and resources, and align financial decision-making with institutional priorities.
As a member of the College’s leadership team, the post-holder contributes to strategy College-wide and reports directly to the Principal.

* Ensure that financial strategy and decision-making align with UWC Atlantic’s mission, values, and educational vision.
* Provide financial leadership to support the College’s strategic priorities, including accessibility, sustainability, and innovation.
* Develop and implement financial models that enable informed decision-making, balancing financial sustainability with educational impact.
* Work collaboratively with the Leadership Team to shape institutional strategy and long-term financial planning.
* Engage with key stakeholders, including the UWC movement, donors, and external partners, to support the College’s financial resilience and development.
* Be present and visible across the College, acting as a role model for the community by upholding the College’s values.
Commitment to financial operational excellence:
* Oversee the College’s financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial planning.
* Lead and enhance financial systems, ensuring efficiency, accuracy, and transparency in all financial operations.
* Oversee the College’s endowment and investment portfolio, ensuring responsible stewardship and alignment with ethical investment principles.
* Provide strategic financial oversight of the College’s commercial activities to ensure they contribute effectively to revenue generation while supporting the mission.
* Lead the procurement function, ensuring cost-effective, ethical, and efficient purchasing processes that align with the College’s needs and values.
* Identify and implement opportunities for financial efficiencies and sustainable growth.
Commitment to compliance and reporting:
* Ensure compliance with all financial regulations, statutory requirements, and governance obligations.
* Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial reports for the Principal, Board of Governors, and external bodies.
* Maintain rigorous financial controls, risk management processes, and audit procedures to safeguard the College’s financial integrity.
* Ensure adherence to tax, VAT, charity, and educational sector financial regulations, advising leadership on changes and implications.
* Lead on financial due diligence, risk assessment, and reporting to support informed decision-making at all levels.
* Act as Company Secretary for College subsidiaries, ensuring compliance with Companies House and Charity Commission requirements.

* Set the direction for a Finance Department of five people, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and professional growth.
* Lead, develop, and support finance staff, ensuring a high-performing and motivated team.
* Communicate financial concepts effectively to non-financial stakeholders, ensuring financial literacy and awareness across the College.
* Work collaboratively across all teams, promoting transparency and strong interdepartmental relationships to enhance financial efficiency and planning.

* Play an active role in creating a culture of safeguarding at the College.
* Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to the safeguarding of students, health and safety, security, confidentiality, and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.
* Work extended and flexible hours as needed including evenings and weekends to support College events and activities.
* Participate in the College’s emergency management rotation and duty rota.
