Introduction
We are looking for a new recruit to supervise our friendly cleaning service team, working in the Cathedral and its associated buildings. This is a fantastic opportunity to work behind the scenes of one of the most iconic buildings in the world, keeping it safe and clean for all its visitors and staff to an excellent standard.
In this role, you will be responsible for the allocation of workloads, setting work priorities and monitoring progress and performance through review and 1-2-1’s. You will also manage holiday and work rotas, conduct training, manage stock and be involved in improving workplace sustainability.
Main Duties
* Supervise the cleaning service staff, including the allocation of workloads, setting work priorities and monitoring progress and performance; paying particular attention to productivity, efficiency and quality control through regular reviews.
* Conduct 1-2-1’s with the cleaning team.
* In conjunction with the Facilities Manager, recruit cleaning employees.
* Arrange / conduct induction and ‘on the job’ training of area cleaning staff, in accordance with relevant health and safety practices.
* Observe safe working practices in carrying out the required duties and ensure that instructions specified by the Health and Safety Officer are adhered to and any unsafe findings are reported.
* Train, control and monitor the correct use of appropriate cleaning equipment and materials in all areas; and arrange the repair or renewal of equipment, when necessary.
* Manage holiday and daily work rotas.
* Record, plan and allocate tasks using our software Vision Pro (CAFM).
* Prepare the cleaning schedule for Chapter House and Amen Court offices.
* Liaise primarily with Virgers, Visitor Experience and Corporate Events on a weekly basis.
* Ensure resources are available for the preparation and presentation of the Cathedral and Chapter House for special services and corporate events, in line with requirements.
* Order, store and manage stock control of cleaning materials.
* Implement response systems to ensure prompt cleaning of spillages, removal of hazards, etc.
* Ensure all health and safety is adhered to and carried out in a safe manner.
* Ensure all records, policies and procedures are maintained and up to date.
* To be involved in improving workplace sustainability – seek methods to make the department more sustainable and take an active role to initiate change in this direction.
* Undertake safety and other training as may be determined by the Facilities Manager.
* Carry out the duties and responsibilities of the role in compliance with the Cathedral’s equal opportunities policies.
* To maintain confidentiality and observe data protection and associated guidelines where appropriate.
Person Specification
* Have experience of working in a similar role.
* Be an effective supervisor of people, able to conduct 1-2-1’s, train and motivate others to work to an excellent standard.
* Have experience of using software to plan, schedule and allocate tasks in a similar busy environment.
* Have experience of producing written reports.
* Able to build strong and effective working relationships and be a good team player.
* Able to work at heights and climb the many staircases in the Cathedral, including the 500+ steps up to the Galleries, carry & operate the necessary mechanical cleaning equipment.
* Have a courteous manner towards the public and all members of the Cathedral community.
* After training, be willing to undertake a variety of cleaning activities, using the appropriate chemicals and mechanised equipment.
* After training, have a good appreciation of Health and Safety, Fire Safety & COSHH requirements and be willing to comply with these.
