Overall purpose of the role Data is a critical asset at Blue, driving fast and accurate decision-making in our lending business. At the core is our data warehouse – a reliable single source of truth enabling effective business intelligence. This role supports the development, optimisation, and maintenance of the data warehouse and reporting systems. Collaborating with the Data Architect and stakeholders, this role would be ensuring data accuracy, accessibility, and alignment across Blue. With expertise in SQL and Power BI, the role enhances reporting capabilities, delivering insights that empower informed, strategic decisions and help the business adapt to evolving demands. Data at Blue Technology department at Blue is organised around four main functions, which collaborate closely and exist to service the rest of the business. Data - this team is responsible for managing SQL Databases, analysing, and optimising data, to support Blue’s applications and organisational decision-making. Change – this team is dedicated to improving systems, processes, and innovation by utilizing effective project management and coordinating change. Development - this team develops and supports all the technology application solutions at Blue. Infrastructure and Support - this teams designs, supports and secures Blue’s IT infrastructure as well as providing technical endpoint support to the business. Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities Reporting Work closely with business users and developers to gather requirements and request system updates Enhance the existing Power BI data layer to support new requirement and self-server analytics Enhance and create new dashboards / reports to provide an intuitive user experience and data is presented in a visually appealing way Be the Power BI expert and train end users how to create and maintain reports / dashboards for their own departments Maintenance of existing operational SSRS reports and further report development where required Build, test and where appropriate own the regular data feeds / reports provided to regulatory bodies, funders and other internal parties Produce adhoc data extracts to agreed specification for internal and external parties Ensure that all report code is optimised for performance and scalability Data Warehouse Maintain accurate and up-to-date configuration information within the data warehouse. Monitor data for accuracy and consistency, working with the business to resolve any issues. Collaborate with the Head of Data Architecture to update and improve core data warehouse functionality. Ensure appropriate data warehouse data dictionary documentation is in place and kept up to date General Maintain clear and comprehensive documentation on processes. Participate in cross functional team developments and data strategy discussions to ensure reporting and data requirements are considered at the outset of any change or project Compliance and Regulation Develop and maintain a full understanding of the Company’s compliance requirements (including the Financial Conduct Authority’s Conduct Rules) and act in accordance with the standards, instructions in, and the spirit of those requirements. Take responsibility for ensuring that personal data within your remit is handled lawfully, fairly, and in line with the company’s data protection policies and procedures. Collaborate with the Data Protection Officer to ensure compliance with data protection standards, guidelines, and principles, acting in a manner that upholds these requirements while supporting the DPO’s overall oversight responsibilities. For customer data, ensure it is processed securely and in accordance with data privacy obligations to protect the rights of individuals. For employee personal data, handle it with strict confidentiality and in compliance with employment and data protection legislation. Person Specification Qualifications A degree or relevant work experience in a numerate or analytical subject (e.g., Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, Physics, Engineering, Accounting, Finance). Experience Proven experience working with SQL Server 2016, including collating business requirements from users at all levels. Experience obtained within the UK consumer lending environment, preferably in automotive finance. Strong understanding of the UK regulatory environment, including FCA guidelines is desirable. Strong background in Power BI, including data modelling (Power BI Desktop) and report/dashboard design (Power BI Web) to enhance user experience. Experience working with SSRS for developing and managing reports. Solid experience in statistical analysis, applying techniques to interpret data and derive actionable insights. Strong commercial mindset and business acumen, applying data insights to drive strategic decision-making. Ability to coach and mentor colleagues across the business in Power BI and Excel, ensuring best practices for data input and data quality to support business growth. Technical Skills SQL & T-SQL: Experience writing queries against OLAP and OLTP data structures to produce efficient queries that are suitably optimised. Power BI: Expert in Power BI Desktop for data modelling and Power BI Web for interactive reports. Experience in Power Query for data transformation and manipulation before loading into Power BI. Act as the Software Expert in the business for Power BI with the ability to Coach and Mentor staff across the business to utilise the product. Excel: Expert level with pivot tables, VLOOKUP, complex formulas, and data analysis tools. Able to train and coach staff in advanced Excel techniques. Programming Languages: Working knowledge of SAS, R, or Python (desirable but not essential). Other Tools: Experience using SSRS for reporting and SQL database management. This role requires working collaboratively with teams around the business and as such is required to be in the office a minimum of three days a week.
