We work in a hybrid way with at least 40% of time in the office. We’re looking for a Senior Policy Adviser, General Insurance to lead our policy work relating to the commercial insurance market. You’ll take ownership of our work on cyber insurance and other commercial insurance product lines, as well as supporting other relevant, high priority work. You’ll engage with the Lloyd’s, London Markets, and other relevant trade associations and stakeholders and work with colleagues and the Government to find solutions to public policy challenges. Our team is made up of people who are new to insurance, those who have worked in insurance for years, and everything in-between, so we welcome people from all industry backgrounds. What’s the job? Become an expert in the policy and regulatory environment affecting commercial and cyber insurers. Advance and monitor the changing public policy issues that emerge across the commercial insurance and cyber insurance markets. Represent the ABI as a thought leader on commercial and cyber insurance by promoting key policy positions, research and proposed solutions to make the market work more effectively. Present at ABI committees, workshops, and events, as well as undertaking speaking engagements and media appearances. Develop industry responses to reputational challenges e.g. managing the industry’s response to major incidents such as a significant data breach. Contribute to policy development work with groups of ABI members including facilitating meetings for the ABI Cyber Committee and supporting the ABI Trade Credit Committee and Commercial Committee. React to and help our members navigate developments in Government policy or the media that may impact on commercial insurers. Engage with key external stakeholders including Lloyd’s of London, the Lloyd’s Market Association, the London Market Group and the International Underwriting Association. Build relationships with our member firms based on a strong understanding of their commercial environment and the impact of regulation and legislation on their businesses and customer base. What skills do you need? Ability to understand complex policy issues – you can get up to speed quickly with the technical detail and exercise good judgment. An analytical mind – you use evidence to back up your decisions and have previously led and analysed complex public policy issues, Excellent communication and relationship management skills – you know how to approach stakeholders of all levels and backgrounds and get the best from those relationships. Demonstrable lobbying skills – you can influence and persuade senior people in member firms, Government, regulators and elsewhere. Effective presentation skills – you know how to tailor you message to your audience. Prioritisation – you autonomously manage multiple complex work areas across a wide-ranging portfolio.
