Mental Health Services Urgent Care and Access Pathway has an exciting opportunity for a skilled Band 6 Mental Health Practitioner with an interest and/or experience in the criminal justice system, and substantial mental health experience to join the Criminal Justice Liaison and Diversion Service. The service operates from police custody and court, which directly engages and supports vulnerable people going through criminal justice system. You will be working with both adults and young people, within what is a very interesting and rewarding area of care that is continuing to develop. As a front-line service, each day can be different in what can be a busy and unpredictable environment.
As a Mental Health Practitioner, the post holder will have clinical responsibilities across the service and be able to supervise junior staff. The post is open to experienced practitioners from a variety of disciplines including mental health nursing, social work, and occupational therapy who are passionate and motivated.
The successful applicant will be required to apply for Leicestershire Police vetting clearance and have it approved before a contract can be agreed.
Main duties of the job
1. This role operates over a seven day week covering various shifts ranging from 7.5 hours to 12.5 hours. The services this role would operate in include: Custody, Magistrates Court, Outreach and the Triage Car. The role may be required to travel between Police Stations and community venues within Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
2. Provide timely support and assessment to individuals with vulnerabilities who are in Police Custody or Court including a mental state examination and risk assessment.
3. Work with the Police on the Triage Car to facilitate an effective response to incidents involving mental health or learning disabilities and reduce unnecessary detentions under Section 136 Mental Health Act and voluntary attendances to A&E.
4. Promote independence, foster a learning culture, enhance the autonomy of the service user, ensure high quality, compassionate, person-centred care.
5. Clinically and professionally line manage and supervise junior team members.
6. Ensure evidence-based practice to continually improve service quality.
7. Be responsible for performing comprehensive service user assessments, plan, implement and evaluate individualised quality care.
8. Work collaboratively and clinically within a multi-agency team and contribute to the provision and development of an effective service in line with legislative, procedural, and contractual requirements.
