Primary Care Counsellor - Band 6

We are looking for enthusiastic and committed individuals to join our Bromley Talking Therapies Service as a Primary Care Counsellor. Our service is part of the national NHS programme of Talking Therapies Service. We provide low and high-intensity therapies within the standards of a stepped-care model.
The successful candidates will have significant experience of working in primary care and providing brief counselling sessions for patients with depression.
Applicants must be accredited or working towards accreditation with the BACP or equivalent.

Main duties of the job
An opportunity has arisen within Bromley Talking Therapies Service for an Accredited Counsellor to provide a counselling service for adults in primary care. Ideally, the candidate will have an IAPT recognised Counselling for Depression qualification.
The role involves providing initial assessments, including risk assessments, and offering appropriate short-term counselling or referral to more appropriate services, and communicating outcomes to GPs/Referrers. The post holder would also be required to work autonomously within professional and service guidelines and to exercise responsibility for governance of their counselling practice.
Bromley Talking Therapies Service has a number of clinics based throughout the Borough of Bromley (including Beckenham and Orpington). Counselling is delivered face-to-face and online remotely. Bromley Talking Therapies Service operates between the hours of 8.00 am to 8.00 pm and the post-holder(s) would be expected to work out of office hours at least one evening per week, and on Fridays.

Qualifications
* Formal approved qualification in counselling at Diploma level
* Accreditation with BCP/UKCP/BACP or other approved organisations
* Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
* Training in CBT based brief interventions
Skills
* Evidence of ability to communicate and work effectively within the service including orally and in writing
* Ability to carry out assessments (including risk assessments) on patients with mild to moderate mental health problems
* Understanding of mild to moderate mental health problems
* Understanding of risk assessments and its management within a primary care setting
* Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with patients and other professionals
