Job Opportunity: Internal Auditor - 3 Month Temporary Contract Position: Internal Auditor Contract Duration: ASAP - June 2025. With the possibility of an extension. Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 09:00 AM - 5:30 PM Pay Rate: £21.98 per hour (PAYE) Location: ST16 2DH Role Overview: The successful candidate will contribute, as an active team member, to the delivery of internal audit services at Staffordshire County Council, the Staffordshire Pension Fund and its external clients which are compliant with Public Sector Internal Audit standards and Accounts & Audit Regulations. Main Duties and Responsibilities: They will be responsible for the delivery of a portfolio of general system audits (non-ICT) across the County Council, and its external clients included within the approved Internal Audit Plans and by agreed timescales, the candidate must have the ability to prioritise audit activities and meet deadlines by agreed schedules. In carrying out general system audit reviews, the successful candidate will be required to deliver all elements of the audit process from cradle to grave i.e. the preparation of the audit Terms of Reference, the identification, assessment and reporting of control weaknesses and risk, as well as providing cost-effective and proportionate recommendations for improvement and risk management across the organisation. Portfolio of audit reviews to be undertaken across all operational areas of the Council. The candidate with be required to negotiate the agreement of audit terms of reference and audit recommendations with Commissioners and Business Managers, and for tracking the implementation of recommendations contained in audit reports during their placement. Work will include planning and completion of interviews with staff at all levels, using different types of questioning, to maximize the amount of information obtained. Monitor the results of interviews, being alert to any indications of fraud or other irregularities, and report accordingly. Skills and Experience: The ideal candidate will have prior experience in undertaking analytical reviews in complex situations, with sound knowledge of sampling techniques, and computer-assisted techniques, outputs and interpretation. Practical experience in utilising fundamental ICT systems to facilitate the completion of audit assignments will also be required. The team use the K10 audit management system, and experience of this would be beneficial. Candidates must be able to work on their initiative, can present complex issues to different audiences; and change attitudes and behaviour in a work situation, including the ability to deal with conflicts in a reasoned and persuasive manner. The ideal candidate will hold a relevant professional qualification, have good verbal and written communication skills, and have previous Internal Audit experience, preferably in a local authority environment, which is essential.
