Main duties of the job
* An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Urgent and Emergency Care Directorate at George Eliot Hospital as an Operations Manager, supporting the UEC Leadership Team with the operational management of services.
* As the Operations Manager you will be responsible and accountable for the operational management and performance of a number of specialties; providing strong visible leadership in partnership with the Heads of Service, Clinical Leads and Directorate Management Team, driving through ambitious targets to continually improve operational and financial performance.
* You will possess exceptional leadership and communication skills and will be required to provide strong operational management on a daily basis. Experience in managing services within an acute setting, staff and budgets and implementing change is essential and having the confidence to work at a senior level.
* This post is integral to the operational running of the Urgent and Emergency Care Directorate and will play a major part in supporting the delivery of all access targets.
* The successful candidate will use their own leadership and operational experience to support the provision of high quality patient care and develop strong relationships with partners across the organisation.

Job responsibilities
* Support the Deputy General Manager in developing service development plans to align national direction/strategies and local priorities, considering the necessary changes in current practice and resourcing implications.
* Identify areas of service improvement and opportunities.
* Lead the infrastructure which measures performance within the service / directorate (including RTT reports, waiting lists, discharge summary completion, outpatient new to follow up ratios, diagnostic treatment status, length of stay) Ensure data validation is completed to achieve required national and local RTT targets and milestones.
* Work across the division to ensure that the emergency access standards are consistently met for all patients.
* Communicate clearly and effectively with staff to ensure they are kept up to date with divisional business plans and operational requirements.
* To manage administration and support staff employed within service / directorate.
* Manage timely and effective recruitment and retention of staff in conjunction with the Human Resources department.

Experience and Knowledge
* Experience of management within the NHS setting
* Proven record of leading and effectively managing change across organizations
* Sound Knowledge of NHS agenda
* Evidence of leadership development
Qualifications and Professional Training
* First degree or equivalent professional, academic qualification
* Evidence of on-going relevant professional training and development
* Master's degree or equivalent level of experience
Skills and Abilities
* Working knowledge of structure, functions, culture and values of NHS and relationship with other agencies
* Understanding of IT systems and appreciation of their application and management in effective service delivery
* Knowledge and understanding of HR policies and practices, interpreting policies for local use
* Understanding of national, regional and local strategies and priorities
* Understanding of clinical and corporate governance agendas and the role of the CQC
* Knowledge of the business planning process and its application in service delivery.
* Knowledge of financial flows in the NHS and impact on service planning
