Position Overview The Talent Manager coordinates and manages all talent management aspects of the London office, including recruitment of trainee solicitors and administration of the trainee solicitor programme, lateral recruiting, professional development, and other areas impacting legal personnel. In addition, Talent Manager will serve as firmwide lead and administrator for specific talent management responsibilities. Duties and Responsibilities Primary • Recruitment of trainee solicitors in London (in conjunction with training principal) o Co-ordinate law fair participation. o Liaise with providers such as LawCareers.Net and Chambers & Partners Student about publications. o Manage recruitment materials. o Review applications for vacation placements and trainee applicants. o Interview vacation placement candidates. o Administer vacation placement scheme. o Make offers to candidates. • Administration of trainee solicitor programme (in conjunction with training principal) o Running the induction process for trainee solicitors. o Regular supervision (monthly meetings, leading training sessions). o Participate in six monthly appraisals, including soliciting feedback from associates/partners and preparing evaluations. o Assist with qualification assessment and placement of associates following conclusion of training contract. • Talent Management in London o Co-ordinate mentoring of associates. o Participate in associate appraisal process (including liaising with associates and partners in relation to the preparation of appraisal forms, prepare summary forms for appraisals, follow up after meetings). o Assist with general talent management, including being a point of contact for associate concerns. o Assist to ensure all firm policies relating to the trainee solicitors and London/international associates up to date, ensure compliance with best practice. o Assist with secondment agreements, leaves of absences etc. o Manage lateral associate and partner recruitment process (with oversight from lateral hire partner). o Prepare summaries of candidate before interview and summarise feedback post interview. o Liaise with partners in relation to recruitment needs. o Review applicants’ CVs. o Participate in interviews where necessary. o Act as first point of contact for recruitment agents and be responsible for agreed terms and conditions between V&E and the agents. o Oversee the induction process for lateral partners, counsel and associates. o Assist in the process of the departure of any associate, including exit interview. o Preliminary review and analysis of employment law issues. o Liaise with outside counsel on employment law advice. o Assist Compliance Committee where appropriate. o Attend Associate Advisory Committee meetings and set up agendas for meetings. o Develop and organize professional development programming for London/international attorneys; brief attorneys on competency regime and related development plan and record. o Assist in development and coordination of pro bono opportunities. o Coordinate diversity & inclusion, women’s initiative, and alumni programming and events. Experience: Three years progressively responsible experience in a law firm or similar environment required; substantial exposure to recruiting and/or professional development in a law firm preferred. Experience in Law firm trainee recruitment. Special Knowledge: Organizational development, diversity and inclusion and career counseling. Technical Skills: Knowledge of firm computer software.
