Our client, an industry leading and well respected engineering business, seeks to appoint an experienced Purchasing Manager. As Purchasing Manager, you will understand engineering and have previous experience working for a manufacturing / R&D focused business with experience of technical buying. You will be responsible for managing and controlling the purchase of goods, materials, and services for individual projects throughout the company, coordinating with the Project Managers, Material Controllers, and Manufacturing teams. In this role, you will lead a team of buyers and expeditors in their day-to-day activities. You need to be a great negotiator capable of building long-lasting partnerships throughout an engineering supply chain, a strategic thinker capable of putting a procurement strategy into action, and a great communicator to build effective internal and external relationships.
Purchasing Manager - Role and Responsibilities
1. Purchase goods, materials, components, or services in accordance with specified technical, quality, and delivery requirements.
2. Negotiate contracts, improved prices, and terms of business with suppliers and review opportunities to make business savings utilizing negotiation and procurement best practice tools and methods.
3. Prepare purchase orders in line with final negotiations with selected suppliers.
4. Interface with other departments and suppliers for all matters related to the procurement of project materials, equipment, and sub-contract services.
5. Provide procurement support for new designs, and when necessary, participate in bid reviews and evaluations.
Purchasing Manager - Skills and Abilities
1. A recognised qualification in manufacturing or engineering.
2. Well-established experience in buying / procurement in engineering.
3. Possess strong knowledge on procuring technical equipment / materials.
4. Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities, negotiate effectively, and coach other members of the team where appropriate.
5. Membership of Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) preferred but not essential.
