a passionate and skilled Head of Scenic Operations to join us and help lead our
scenic department into a more sustainable future, working alongside our Head of
Scenic Construction
THE ROLE:
As Head of Scenic Operations, you will be a key driver in the efficient and effective
delivery of all scenic projects, working in close partnership with the Head of Scenic
Construction. You will play a vital role in bridging the gap between design,
construction, and project management, fostering a collaborative environment that
fuels creativity and ensures seamless execution. This role requires a blend of
technical expertise, collaborative spirit, and a commitment to sustainable practices.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Attend offsite recce meetings to assess project requirements.
* Create accurate project quotations and review budgets to identify cost-saving opportunities.
* Establish and maintain consistent budgeting practices across the department.
* Determine project resource needs (staff, materials, equipment).
* Book crew for both in-warehouse and on-site support.
* Expand existing freelance list and supplier roster
* Develop and maintain a comprehensive departmental project timeline.
* Delegate tasks to the draughtsperson and co-ordinate material orders.
* Oversee project transitions to the Head of Set Construction, ensuring timely completion and adherence to sustainable practices.
* Identify and analyse inefficiencies in construction workflows.
* Implement strategies to streamline operations, enhance productivity, and minimise waste.
* Evaluate existing warehouse and facilities to recommend improvements in layout, organisation, and infrastructure.
* Develop scenic services to offer expanded fabrication capabilities including exhibition build
* Improve reusability/circularity and sustainability gains.
* Implement strategies to reduce material spend and environmental impact.
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE ROLE;
Essential:
* Good working knowledge of the scenic construction industry and related equipment.
* General PC skills.
* Experience in budget management and cost control.
* Excellent client-facing communication skills
* Proficiency with relevant hand and power tools.
* Proven experience in managing a team and overseeing complex projects
* Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
* A commitment to sustainable practices.
Desirable:
* Experience with CAD software
