This is an exciting post established as part of the Community Mental Health Transformation with a primary focus on supporting the expansion and implementation of FREED (First episode Rapid Early intervention for Eating Disorders) pathway for individuals aged 16 - 25 residing in the Solihull catchment area.
Main duties of the job
The post is based in the Eating Disorders Service at The Barberry in Edgbaston but the post holder will work across different sites covering the Adult Eating Disorder Community Team at the Barberry and TEDS (CYP) Team in Solihull. The post holder has primary responsibility for ensuring the smooth and effective implementation of the FREED pathway. This will involve considerable liaison with, and education of, Primary Care Services, to promote the new treatment pathway. The post will also involve managing all referrals for this pathway in conjunction with other team members offering initial triage and assessment as well as providing evidence-based interventions for the FREED-eligible client group.
Being allied to the multi-disciplinary teams in both the Adult and CYP Eating Disorders Community Services, the post holder will act as a member of the teams, attend meetings and contribute to patient care and treatment within the teams. The post holder will also fulfil an important role of supporting a smooth transition of service users from CYP to the Adult ED Service.
Job responsibilities
The post holder has primary responsibility for ensuring the smooth and effective implementation of the FREED pathway. This will involve considerable liaison with, and education of, Primary Care Services, to promote the new treatment pathway. The post holder manages all referrals for this pathway in conjunction with other team members and offers initial triage and assessment, as well as providing evidence-based interventions for the FREED-eligible client group. The post holder is based with Adult Eating Disorder Community Team at the Barberry but will work across services to support the implementation of FREED in both CYP and adult pathways. In addition, the post holder is responsible for liaising and working with other professionals as appropriate, alongside the promotion and development in the service of the FREED approach.
The post holder will lead with other senior colleagues the continuing development of a high-quality service that is underpinned by evidence-based practice and care pathways / packages and NICE guidance and DH guidance contributing to service development and delivery in conjunction with the other senior clinicians, and Service Leads.
The post holder will also have responsibility for the day-to-day supervision and management of lower banded staff within the teams as required by the line manager, this may include the management of these staff in line with agreed Trust HR processes.
The post holder will be expected to work collaboratively with key partner organisations, service users, carers, clinicians and other practitioners within the multi-disciplinary team in delivering services working flexibly where appropriate and operationally required.
Person Specification
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Essential
* A recorded/registered professional qualification from a mental health or clinical psychology background eligible for registration with the NMC or HCPC.
* Received training in at least one of the evidence-based treatment for eating disorder.
* Experience in working with individuals suffering from an eating disorder.
* Experience of assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, and primary care settings.
* Experience in delivering low- or high-intensity psychological interventions.
* Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
* Knowledge of assessment individuals with eating disorders, particularly an understanding of the underlying physical and psychological factors that may influence engagement of the person.
* Knowledge of evidence-based treatment in eating disorders.
* Knowledge of working therapeutically with families and carers.
* Skills in providing teaching, training, consultation and supervision for other professionals.
* Ability to interact effectively with staff from all disciplines.
* Ability to interact and to build and sustain relationships with people with mental health problems and associated disabilities.
* Capacity for tolerating frustration, change and high levels of demand with an ability to work effectively under pressure.
* Commitment to the involvement of service users and carers on the development and delivery of mental health and other care services.
Desirable
* Post graduate qualification to at least diploma level in an evidence-based psychological therapies, including CBT.
* Experience in working in all-age services.
* Experience of the application of intervention in different cultural contexts.
* Knowledge of the theory and practice how to work with difficult-to-treat groups (e.g. personality disorder, dual diagnoses, people with additional disabilities etc).
* Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health.
