Our client is a hydrogen-tech start-up based in London, currently developing their novel technology for decarbonisation of hydrogen production. They have just received significant funding to allow them to expand their team, including the need for a Senior Electrochemist. Accountabilities: Characterize a wide range of metal electrodes for hydrogen evolution and oxygen evolution reactions. Investigate methods to enhance the performance and durability of electrodes. Explore deposition methods for catalyst nanoparticles onto electrode surfaces. Research corrosion tolerance of materials and develop corrosion-resistant coatings. Assist the CTO with the design, fabrication, and development of electrolyser cells and modules. Design experiments, pioneer new test protocols, and standardize operating procedures. Manage the procurement and organization of reagents, electrochemical equipment, and consumables. Report research findings to the CSO and CTO. About the Candidate: Essential Qualifications and Skills: A passion for achieving a net-zero environment and enthusiasm for innovation. A PhD or significant industrial experience in electrochemistry. Strong background in material science, ideally specializing in metal alloys and multi-metal oxides. Proficiency in cyclic voltammetry, chronoamperometry, chronopotentiometry, and EIS measurements, with the ability to analyze and present results effectively to non-specialists. Expertise in electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and presenting findings confidently. Exceptional problem-solving abilities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience with surface area analysis techniques. A proactive and self-motivated approach to achieving company goals. Desirable Experience: Multiphysics or electrochemical modeling. Expertise in corrosion chemistry. Familiarity with high-pressure and high-temperature systems. Experience with density functional theory (DFT) modeling of alloys
