Band 8a
Job overview
WE ARE LOOKING FOR AN EXPERIENCED CRITICAL CARE PHARMACIST
We are seeking a self-motivated, passionate and resilient clinical pharmacist to join our team of critical care pharmacists and technicians.
We welcome applicants with previous critical care experience at band 8a or 7 level.
In 2022 we expanded our team to provide a 7-day clinical service to the Integrated Critical Care Unit (ICCU). This has been extremely well received by the multidisciplinary team and has made a significant impact to patient care.
An independent prescribing qualification is desirable but there is the opportunity and support to undertake the course if not already completed.
The RWT Pharmacy Team are proud winners of the Trust's Clinical Team of the Year Award 2024, and our overwhelmingly positive staff survey results speak for themselves.
What you will gain from the role:
1. Experience working in a large critical care unit treating patients from a wide range of specialities, including cardiothoracic surgery.
2. Experience working with the team to maintain shared oversight and governance of other clinical areas in the Anaesthesia, Perioperative, Pain Medicine and ICCU Group, including theatres.
3. Support and mentorship from a highly experienced 8b critical care pharmacist.
4. Working within a team of friendly, motivated and supportive pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.
(Band 7 to 8a step up may be considered if all essential criteria are not met and our department has an established step-up programme)
Main duties of the job
Main duties of the job include:
1. Providing clinical and directorate support to the Anaesthesia, Perioperative, Pain Medicine and ICCU Group.
2. Participating in the 7-day clinical pharmacy service to the critical care unit.
3. Liaising with pharmacists working in other medical and surgical specialities to ensure seamless care of those patients transferring between different levels of care.
4. Providing a pharmacy service to the operating theatres and anaesthetic department.
5. Contributing to service improvement projects, governance, financial reporting, and guideline development.
6. Education and training of junior pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and pharmacy students on the management of critical care patients.
