Job summary Band 2 Community Phlebotomist - 0.8 WTE 30 hours a week. We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Community Phlebotomist to join our community nursing teams covering the Burton upon Trent area. We are looking for someone who will work alongside our District Nursing teams and the other Phlebotomists covering the Burton area. You will be visiting patients in their own homes and also residential care homes where you will be undertaking venepuncture. You will need to have excellent communication skills and time management skills, to be able to co-ordinate your own workload and work on your own initiative. Past experience and training in phlebotomy preferred but not essential as training will be provided. Car driver required, as the post holder will be required to travel between sites. Main duties of the job The post holder will be visiting patient in the community area of Burton Upon Trent to obtain blood samples. This post will also involve visiting patient in care homes. You will be expected to work alongside all the DN team and manage your own diary and workload to meet the needs of the service Full support and training will be given. You will: Demonstrate accurate, competent technique when taking blood samples from the patients, completing laboratory forms clearly and accurately with patient details, and specifying test requested (speed is required when working in a clinic setting). Deliver a high quality venepuncture service in the community, taking into consideration the patient's physical, social and emotional care needs. Monitor programmes of care ensuring that routine blood tests are carried out on a regular basis and in a timely manner. Take appropriate action relating to any changes in a patient's condition or circumstances, reporting to the appropriate person without delay. Undertake venepuncture for patients as requested by the ILCT, GP's and secondary care. Work without direct supervision organising own workload, frequently working under pressure to accommodate appointment times. Maintain accurate records as required by the Trust policy, providing evidence of high quality record keeping skills.
