Clinical Lecturer in Primary Dental Care
This is an exciting time to join Bristol Dental School following its recent move to a brand-new state of the art clinical facility located nearby Temple Meads station. We are seeking outstanding individuals who have significant experience in general practice to help Bristol Dental School prepare our students for life in practice. As well as contributing to teaching and clinical supervision, the post holder may contribute to patient assessment and emergency clinics, plus there are opportunities to engage with other academic duties and development.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will facilitate undergraduate (and postgraduate) education. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in undergraduate (and postgraduate) teaching activities including the supervision of undergraduates carrying outpatient care, writing teaching material e.g., lectures/tutorials, and contributing to vital School activities including admissions interviews/student examinations.
The successful candidate will be expected to comply with all relevant clinical policies relating to administration of patient care. This includes working to set timescales for the triage of referrals, following the specified process for the management of patients that do not attend their appointment, and the completion of all paperwork deemed necessary to support the management of their patients within agreed timescales.

Job responsibilities
The post will have principal responsibilities to act as a Clinical Lecturer in Primary Care Dentistry at Bristol Dental School. The post holder would be expected to provide teaching and supervision to undergraduate dental students and student hygienists/therapists, with potential for involvement with postgraduate teaching.

* Commitment to Primary Care Dentistry and whole patient care
* Ability to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional, and national levels.
Qualifications
* BDS or equivalent
* Full registration with the United Kingdom General Dental Council (GDC)
* Membership of appropriate Defence Society
* MFDS/MJDF or equivalent
* Higher Degree e.g., MSc, DDS, PhD
* Fellow of the Higher Education Academy or qualification in Teaching and Learning (e.g., TLHP)
Experience
* Current clinical practice in a General Dental Practice or PCDS setting
* A working knowledge of clinical governance and participation in audit and quality improvement projects
* Ability to prioritise, organise time appropriately, and work independently
* Ability to work under pressure and cope with setbacks
* Able to maintain contemporaneous, clear, and legible clinical notes
* Broad range of IT skills
* Capable of involvement in day-to-day clinical management in the unit
* Knowledge of when to refer patients to specialist services
* Evidence of personal development training and commitment to learning
* Significant post qualification experience (ideally 4 years minimum)
* Experience of teaching and training in dentistry
* Ability to organise own learning as demonstrated via professional portfolio
* Publications in peer-reviewed journals
* Experience of working with other dental & medical specialties
* Experience in managing patient complaints
* Familiar with current structure of the Health Service including the commissioning of dental services
* Ability to organise efficient and smooth running of a clinical service
* Presented or published the results of audit and quality improvement reports
* Able to demonstrate evidence within presentations and publications
* An interest and/or knowledge of adult education
Communication and Interpersonal Skills
* Ability to communicate effectively with patients and their relatives/carers, clinical colleagues, support staff, and other colleagues
* Capacity to work within a multidisciplinary team
* Ability to develop effective working relationships on an individual and multi-professional basis with all levels of staff both within and across divisions.
