Applications are invited from enthusiastic and motivated HCPC-Registered Biomedical Scientists to join our friendly team in Clinical Biochemistry as part of the Blood Sciences Department.
Previous laboratory experience and basic IT skills would be an advantage for the position however full training will be provided.
This is a developmental post, you will be working towardsIBMS Specialist postgraduate portfolio in Clinical Biochemistry.

The Trust serves a population of over 400,000 and is based in laboratories at Calderdale Royal Hospital (CRH) and Huddersfield Royal Infirmary (HRI). The department has full UKAS ISO15189:2022 accreditation and has IBMS approval for training. The department offers training and development opportunities for the right candidate to further develop their skills and ambitions.
The Biochemistry section is well equipped with Siemens Atellica SCI systems, Versacell X3, Advia chemistry 1800 and Centaur XPT analysers interfaced to the Atellica Data Management system, along side other semi-automated platforms.
Following a period of training and competency assessments the successful candidate will be expected to participate in round the clock working patterns, which include earlies, days, lates, nights, bank holidays and weekend working primarily at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, but with a requirement to work on a rotational basis at Calderdale Royal Hospital.
· Provide confidential, specialised and sensitive diagnostic test results over the telephone tousers of the service, providing explanation of results where necessary.
· To act as primary point of contact for the laboratory when working alone outside normalworking hours.
· Liaise with other members of staff within the department on a routine basis to ensure safeand efficient daily operation.
· To be able to plan your own work and that of the department and prioritise urgent samples.
· To co-ordinate the work within a section in conjunction with other biomedical scientists.
· Must have good hand eye co-ordination when handling potentially infectious material andwhen using laboratory equipment.
· To prepare specimens from patients for routine diagnostic testing.
· To carry out and analyse the results of a wide range of complex diagnostic tests.
· Must be able to do maintenance and basic repairs of the automated analysers.
· Helps formulate SOP’s with the Senior BMS in the section.
· To maintain adequate levels of laboratory kits and reagents in the department
· To assist with the training of new Biomedical Support Workers, AP’s and newly qualifiedBiomedical Scientists and Biomedical Science students.
