About the job Salary: £32,115 - £44,711 a year pro rata plus £963 essential car user (subject to criteria) Hours per week: 14.8 (2 days) Contract type: Permanent Luton Council is looking for a dedicated Private Sector Housing Officer to join our dynamic team, focusing on improving housing conditions across the borough. This is an exciting opportunity to make a positive impact on the local community by ensuring the safety and quality of private sector housing. Key Responsibilities: Conduct inspections and assessments of building works, housing conditions, and building services. Measure premises, analyse inspection results, and provide professional advice on housing standards. Maintain detailed and accurate reports, specifications, and records of all inspections. Effectively manage your workload to meet deadlines, working independently or collaboratively as part of a team. Handle complex situations tactfully and diplomatically, building strong relationships with people at all levels. Ensure compliance with housing legislation and respond to enquiries with expert knowledge. Please note this role does not attract sponsorship. About you Essential Skills and Experience: Demonstrable experience in inspecting or assessing building works or working in a similar environment. Strong knowledge of building construction and building services. Qualification in Building Construction or Technology (e.g., B/Tech), or equivalent relevant experience. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to converse fluently and provide advice in clear, accurate English. Ability to work within a team structure and manage workloads efficiently to meet deadlines. Understanding of the impact of discrimination on service delivery and the individuals you work with. Flexibility to travel across the borough and conduct building surveys, including accessing roof spaces and lofts using ladders and steps (daily). Why Join Us?
