Northease Manor is a specialist school for students with Special Educational Needs/Disabilities. An exciting opportunity has arisen in our team of invigilators whose role it is to assist our Examinations Officer in conducting both external and internal examinations.
Invigilators are responsible for ensuring that exams are run according to JCQ regulations, that all students are supervised and that their individual needs are catered for during each exam. Invigilators work mainly as readers and/or scribes, working 1:1 with students.
You should:
1. Have attention to detail
2. Be able to work effectively both on your own and within a team
3. Have legible handwriting
4. Be confident in working with young people
5. Experience in working with young people with additional needs is desirable
Invigilators work on a casual basis and are asked for their availability prior to the examination season. There will be periods when there are no exams and no requirements for invigilators. Equally, there will be very busy times during the statutory examination periods in May/June and during mock and GCSE examinations in November. Invigilators are also required for ad hoc sessions throughout the year for training and to meet students.
This would be an ideal role for someone looking for part-time occasional work.
For morning exams, a typical work pattern would be 8.30am- 11.30am/12.00pm.
For afternoon exams, a typical work pattern would be 1pm- 3.30/4.00pm.
No experience in the role is necessary as full training for successful candidates is supplied; however, you will need to be able to demonstrate your ability to work with young people in challenging situations. Our invigilators need to be:
1. Honest
2. Reliable
3. Punctual
4. Highly flexible
5. Calm under pressure
