Job Introduction
You’ll be involved in all aspects of multimedia journalism including script writing, packaging and compiling TV bulletins. You must have plenty of energy, flexibility, and enthusiasm and be able to work with people from different backgrounds in a multilingual environment.
Above all, you must be an outstanding TV journalist, able to produce accurate, informed, and interesting news and programming under tight deadlines. The role requires first-class communication skills and knowledge of World Service Language output, audiences, and formats.
The successful candidate will work in a team led by the Pashto TV editor and senior producers.
Main Responsibilities
1. Appear on screen as part of a TV piece or presenting part of a programme.
2. Research, write, transcribe, edit and adapt stories or programme material for Pashto TV audiences.
3. Write, cut and produce bulletins content for live broadcast using relevant TV News content production software.
4. Offer ideas for sequences, packages, and programme content.
5. Be responsible for a moving story, amending and updating material as required.
6. Create original material for all multimedia News and non-News output.
7. Work with Graphic Designers to produce creative graphics sequences.
8. Build and maintain links with other areas of the BBC.
9. Maintain professional journalistic standards of accuracy, impartiality, and fair dealing.
10. Be responsible for studio production of live and pre-recorded programmes.
11. Ensure that BBC Editorial guidelines and all relevant legal, contractual and copyright requirements are met.
12. Work the hours required for business needs.
Are you the right Candidate?
1. Proven track record of producing stories for TV.
2. Substantial recent and relevant full-time experience as a journalist.
3. Ability to write scripts in Pashto language with clarity and style appropriate to audience.
4. Complete comprehension of written and spoken Pashto & English.
5. A passion for International and Afghan news.
6. Demonstrable interest in working in a multimedia environment.
7. Good keyboard/computer skills.
