A great opportunity has arisen for 2 self-motivated and enthusiastic candidates to join our friendly team in Cytology, part of Derbyshire Pathology UHDB. This post is based at the Royal Derby Hospital.
We are looking for someone who has experience in Cytology to at least Healthcare Science Assistant level with an IBMS accredited BSc in Biomedical Science, for a trainee role, or a qualified Biomedical Scientist with HCPC registration.
Significant IT skills would be an advantage.
You will need to have good communication and keyboard skills, and the ability to work under pressure within our busy department. Our ideal candidate will be pro-active, keen to learn and work well within a team environment.
Candidates who hold the NHSCSP Certificate of Competence and are trained in Thinprep technology are positively encouraged to apply and an awareness of the NHSCSP and understanding of molecular testing would also be an advantage.
The main purpose of the role is to participate in or to undertake a training programme and be able to participate in the day-to-day workload of the Cytology laboratory. You will participate in or train to participate in reporting negative, high risk HPV primary screened tests and to microscopically screen and rapid review cervical cytology reflex slides. In addition, you will be trained to participate in the day-to-day processing of non-gynae cytology samples and to support the BMS Team with the supervision of staff and workflow management to maintain an efficient Cytology service.
As a trainee, you will be supported to complete an IBMS Certificate of Competence portfolio which will enable you to apply for HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist.

5 days per week - Monday to Friday initially. There will be a requirement, once trained, to work as part of an extended day/weekend rota.
