The Compassionate Neighbours project is a community led scheme enabling and supporting people to be actively compassionate in their communities.
The project works by matching local people with Martlets patients and/or carers based on shared likes, experiences and interests.
What will I be doing?
* As a Compassionate Neighbour volunteer, you will be offering companionship, emotional support and a listening ear.
* Helping your community member to stay connected to their friends and the community.
* Signposting the community member to relevant local support services.
Where?
The Compassionate Neighbours project is part of the Martlets Hospice Patient and Family Support Service (PFSS). As a Compassionate Neighbour volunteer, you will be matched with a Community Member, to either visit in their home, meet in the community or speak over the telephone.
When?
A Compassionate Neighbour volunteer will support people by telephone or face to face contact, offering friendship and a listening ear. We ask for a commitment of at least 1-2 hours per week.
What skills do I need?
* You don’t need any specific skills, qualifications, or experiences to attend – just yourself and a positive attitude.
* Good communicator including being an active listener.
* To have empathy for others with a non-judgmental approach.
* Willingness and commitment to represent Martlets Hospice and our values.
Anything else I should know?
To become a Compassionate Neighbour, you need to complete the application form and attend two training sessions at the Martlets (currently held during the week). These are fun, informal and transformative training sessions. You will also need to attend monthly Practice Development Meetings.
Sounds good, what do I do next?
Apply Now and a member of the team will be in contact to answer any questions and give you the dates of our next training sessions.
This role is for people aged 18+.
