A Vacancy at East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust.
Opportunities have arisen to join our teams at Ipswich Hospital as a full time Consultant.
Applicants will have completed CCT or equivalent (CESR) and must be on the Specialist Register.
Histopathology provides a reporting service to the Trust, the community and local private hospitals, with workload distributed using the RCPATH points system according to job plan. In addition there is opportunity to boast income from private work, which is shared equally between the consultant team, and an opportunity to participate in the Post Mortem Service which is provided to the local coroner (although this is not mandatory).
Any applicant who is unable for personal reasons, to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

CLINICAL
The new appointee will automatically be a member of the Medical Staff Committee.
The post-holder will:
• Participate in the departmental rota for routine surgical pathology reporting, and dissection.
• Attend MDTs according to rostering and clinical need.
• Participate in the MDT cancer care structure and assume leadership for cell pathology in at least one MDT according to the interests of the postholder and the needs of the department in consultation with existing consultant colleagues.
• Refer specialist cases to appropriate referral centres for reporting.

GENERAL
The post-holder will:
• Work with colleagues to provide a consultant-led service of the highest standard
• Work with multidisciplinary teams to develop care pathways and clinical guidelines
• Develop and maintain good working practices, including adhering to departmental SOPs and guidelines issued by professional bodies such as the Royal College of Pathologists
• Offer support and leadership to junior medical colleagues and other members of the team including laboratory, secretarial and mortuary staff.
• Collaborate and promote close working links with colleagues in tertiary centres, community services and primary care
All Consultants have a continuing and individual responsibility for the diagnosis, treatment, and care of patients in their charge. Within Histopathology, Consultants are expected to share in the duties associated with providing an efficient and effective service, making use of all available skill mix including biomedical scientist dissection. The Consultant will be responsible to the Chief Executive of the Trust via the Clinical Lead and Divisional Director.
