Job summary The Medical Equipment Library (MEL) has a requirement for a part time technician working three days a week Monday to Wednesday with some requirement for Saturday working, with time off in lieu to cover. The MEL is a central store for frequently used medical Equipment. MEL technicians issue equipment to departments as required and collect equipment once finished with. Before being returned in to the library all equipment is cleaned and checked by the MEL technicians. MEL technicians also reprocess the Trusts ventilators after patient use. Removing the old "dirty patient circuit", retaining and cleaning the reusable components of the circuit, before fitted a new circuit. MEL technicians reprocess between three and four thousand ventilators a year. All loans are recorded by the MEL team on the departments computer system. Main duties of the job Delivery and collection of medical equipment through out the hospital. Cleaning of medical equipment returned after patient use. Reprocess hospital ventilators after patient use. Perform basic checks of medical equipment. Liaise closely with Medical Engineering Team to identify medical equipment due service or repair. Ensure accurate loan records are maintained. While not having patient contact, technicians will be required to deliver and collect medical equipment from Intensive Care and Theatre areas. There maybe a requirement to work some Saturdays with time off in lieu during the week to cover.
