We are looking for an experienced HSE Officer to drive Health & Safety initiatives from the Management Team to improve operational efficiencies in a safe and healthy environment for our team. You will work closely with stakeholders to develop and embed safety at the site, ensuring that this remains a safe place to work.
Responsibilities:
1. Identify hazards, perform risk assessments, and implement control measures to ensure the risk of injury is reduced or eliminated.
2. Ensure compliance with UK health and safety regulations (e.g., Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, COSHH, RIDDOR).
3. Complete departmental induction and orientation of new employees by providing information on hazards and risks in the workplace, job instruction, training, and supervision as necessary to ensure safe work for employees.
4. Ensure that safety inspections are carried out, fire drills and fire alarms are correctly reported, risk assessments and lone working procedures are managed, and employees are aware of their responsibilities.
5. Liaise with 3rd party H&S Specialist and management team to ensure compliance.
6. Support with investigating accidents, near misses, and incidents to determine root causes. Implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
7. Provide personal protective equipment, instruction in its correct use, maintenance and limitations, ensuring a register of deployed equipment is continuously maintained and reviewed.
8. Ensure all staff are aware of fire, evacuation, and disaster procedures and coordinate regular training interventions in fire and emergency procedures and manual handling training, in collaboration with HR.
9. Ensure full and accurate health and safety training records are maintained.
10. Manage and organise the safe disposal of hazardous substances IAW local and national regulations.
11. Monitor and report on relevant KPI’s, producing weekly reports for the management team.
12. Lead in-house training with managers and employees about health and safety issues and risks including H&S Toolbox Talks.
13. Undertake continual professional development activities including attending seminars and reading professional journals.
14. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and any developments affecting the business.
Essential Qualifications and Training:
1. IOSH/NEBOSH or working towards.
2. SME manufacturing background.
3. Experience of ISO9001.
4. Awareness of 14001/45001.
5. Familiar with primary UK workplace legislation.
6. IOSH or IIRM member.
7. 3 years or more in a H&S position.
8. Background in FMCG or chemical manufacturing environment.
9. 2 years or more experience working with 9001/14001/45001.
This is a full-time role, Monday to Thursday, with a shorter day on Friday.
