Tarmac is looking for a talented, ambitious, and committed Assistant Quantity Surveyor, who seeks to kick-start their career by joining our high performing contracting team based out of Tarmac North East office in Birtley, Chester-le-Street. The successful candidate will play a vital commercial role within our North East team, helping to deliver some of the region’s most high profile construction projects.
Our regional office is located close to the A1 and A19, so is easily accessible from all areas of the North East. As well as Birtley and Chester-le-Street this role is also easily accessible from County Durham, Gateshead, Newcastle upon Tyne, Consett, Durham, Sunderland, Middlesbrough, Hartlepool, Darlington, South Shields, Wallsend, Longbenton, Hexham, Alnwick, Morpeth and the surrounding areas.
Role Responsibility
Reporting to the Senior Area Quantity Surveyor, the Assistant Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for the commercial management of individual construction projects, ranging in complexity and value.
The Assistant Quantity Surveyor will also be responsible for:
1. Preparing and agreeing interim valuations and final accounts with clients and subcontractors
2. Recording, monitoring, and reviewing the financial performance of contracts
3. Managing financial accounts
4. Reporting project performance internally (senior managers) and externally (clients)
5. Securing payments from clients within the specified contract terms
6. Subcontract procurement and management of subcontractor accounts
7. Pre-contract pricing and agreement of project costs
8. Mentoring other staff
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for the role of Assistant Quantity Surveyor will currently be working towards a degree in Quantity Surveying. We also welcome applications from candidates who are currently undertaking further or higher education courses and would like a full time role that will also support you whilst you continue your studies on a day release basis.

This is a regional role and a company vehicle is provided so suitable candidates must possess FULL UK manual car driving licence with no more than 6 points.
