The DFN Project SEARCH programme provides real work experience for students with learning disabilities and Autism Spectrum Conditions.The programme takes place in a business setting where total immersion in the workplace facilitates the teaching and learning process through continuous feedback and acquisition of employability and competitive work skills. It is a partnership between a host business, education provider and a supported employment provider. Job development is on-going throughout the year and is based on strengths, skills and interests. Interns are given support through on-the-job coaching and improvement strategies with the ultimate goal of paid employment and independence. United Response will be working alongside Asda Sheffield as the host business and Nacro as the education provider to deliver the programme. Who we need- The DFN Project Search Programme requires an enthusiastic and committed individual to support interns based at Asda. The programme is for young people aged 17 to 24 who have an Education, Healthcare Plan (EHCP) and who are keen to gain experience within the various department within the store. Making it Happen – Your role The role of the Job Coach is to support young people in realising their aspirations to participate in work related activities and facilitate individuals’ progression into paid work. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with confidence and initiative who is comfortable working on a one-to-one basis and sometimes without direct supervision. Working with challenging young people and helping them develop will be key so you will need excellent interpersonal and communication skills. You will follow a bespoke timetable and will build positive relationships with the young person to promote interaction and a constructive learning environment.
