WM&D delivers commercial R&D to help solve a wide range of challenges in the nuclear industry. The Health and Nuclear Medicine and Decontamination Chemistry teams are two exciting new growth areas, and we are looking for an individual to support with the management and development of these teams and delivery of customer programmes. Ideally the candidate should be a scientist who wants to continue to deliver technical work while gaining some experience of team and laboratory management. This is a role for you if you have experience delivering work in a radioactive laboratory environment, but with an aptitude and enthusiasm for developing and mentoring team members, and a willingness to learn a new skill set. You will be supported to develop your people management skills through mentoring and on-the job support from the Capability Manager alongside formal training programmes and structured development plans. This is a great opportunity to dip your toe into people management while still being actively involved in the delivery of cutting-edge scientific programmes. Main Responsibilities for Technical Delivery Manager: Carry out the day-to-day line management activities for a small number of the Technical Team (principally Performance Management and Development Reviews, training, coaching, mentoring etc.). Support the Capability Manager in the delivery of the EHSS&Q Improvement and Assurance Plans and local Capability Strategy. Act as Area Owner for specific laboratories, taking "ownership" of those areas, ensuring that the "look and feel" lives up to UKNNL's values and expectations and be the single point of contact for stewardship of that area. Work with Technical Leads to develop, define and carry out experimental work programmes in the laboratory to meet agreed objectives (dependent on experience). Provide technical advice and guidance on issues appropriate to their working area. Liaise with project managers to ensure effective planning and scheduling of team projects. Liaise with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure all enabling activities are planned and delivered effectively (including equipment maintenance, preparation of permissioning documentation, procurement of equipment and consumables). Lead the development and application of appropriate technical and managerial processes and systems in their working area. Essential Criteria for Technical Delivery Manager: Minimum undergraduate degree in a relevant scientific subject; preferably Chemistry. Operational experience in a controlled radiochemistry laboratory. Ability to effectively communicate with a range of internal and external stakeholders at different levels, build relationships and working collaboratively. Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills. Experience in providing pastoral care and support. Demonstrable commitment to achieving high levels of safety and quality and striving for continual improvement. Ability to obtain SC level security clearance (this includes but is not limited to identity, employment, financial and criminal record checks plus 5 years' worth of UK residency). Desirable Criteria for Technical Delivery Manager: Line management experience. Chartered membership of a relevant professional institute. Experience in managing facilities and equipment on a nuclear and non-nuclear site is desirable, otherwise complimentary skills indicating the ability to work in this environment. Why join us?
