Job summary Surgery Band 2 - Ward Clerk Vacancy - 37.5 hours post Pasteur ward An opportunity has arisen for a permanent ward clerk vacancy on Pasteur ward within Surgery. Applicants must be able to work in a combination of morning, afternoon sessions and be able to deal pleasantly, efficiently and sympathetically with all patients / relative enquires at departmental level. Experience of working in a hospital environment would be desirable as well as using Oracle, Myrddyn IT systems. Post - Monday to Friday (Excluding weekends and bank holidays). The position involves Administrative support for the nursing staff on Pasteur Ward. Applicants will work alongside the nursing team on the ward and will be required to be responsible for answering all ward telephone calls to the department as well as directing enquiries to appropriate member of staff. Good I.T. skills are desirable, as the post holder will be responsible for entering all patient information data etc, onto the hospital computerised Myrddyn system. The ability to speak Welsh is essential for this post. Main duties of the job To receive and direct visitors and relatives in a professional and courteous manner at all times and assist in answering queries. To be responsible for dealing with accurate patient admission, discharge and transfer documentation and accurately inputting computerised patient information on WPAS. Ensure all patients are admitted/transferred to the ward Ensure that the GP and address is correct for each admission Ensure that all patient ward events, including transfer of care to other Consultant's, other acute wards and peripheral hospitals, ward attenders, emergency admissions and planned admissions have been documented and recorded on WPAS. To inform nursing and medical staff as patients arrive and ensure that patient's case notes are available and complete. To be responsible for all the filing of reports (when signed by the doctors) daily, including those received after patients have left the ward. Once actioned, ensure letters, results and any other documentation is filed in the correct section of patient case-notes. To liaise with appointment clerks regarding follow up/outpatient appointments for patients discharged from the ward relay messages and enquiries in a timely manner e.g. to nurses, doctors and patients. Report maintenance problems and necessary repairs to Estates Department. Liaise with medical staff, GP's, wards etc, regarding the booking of appointments.
