An Environmental Consultancy based across the UK which was first formed in 2005, working across a variety of environmental practices, including Aquatic, Terrestrial and Avian Ecology, Hydrology, Peat, Environmental Advice, Ecological Clerk of Works, Hydrological Clerk of Works, Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), and Drone Survey.
They are looking to expand their Ecologist team by recruiting a Principal Ecologist to join their team in either their Glasgow or Perth office. You will be joining an experienced team and working on an existing portfolio of projects including offshore wind farm projects, overhead power line projects, and a variety of housing development projects.
Your new role
They are recruiting a Principal Ecologist to lead a team of 4 Senior Ecologists across the Glasgow and Perth Area. Your main responsibilities will include:
* Completing Ecological Compliance Reports
* Team leadership and management
* Leading a team of up to 4 Ecologists
* Attending weekly managerial meetings
* Project management and organisation
* Protected and priority species surveys
* Ecological Impact Assessments and further detailed assessments
* Preparing quotations and tenders
* Ecological appraisals
What you'll need to succeed
* Genuine and demonstrable enthusiasm for ecology and the environment
* Experience of phase 1 habitat surveys/ UK Habs and protected species surveys
* Member of CIEEM
* Degree or equivalent in an ecology related discipline
* Experience of using QGIS or ArcGIS is desirable
* Survey licence for at least one protected species e.g. bats, dormouse, GCN, barn owl, rare reptiles etc.
* 5 years of managerial experience in Ecology
* Willingness to be flexible as required
* Excellent report writing skills
* Motivated to work both independently and as part of a team, often in remote locations and sometimes during unsociable hours
* Good communication skills with colleagues, clients, and third parties
* Experience of writing or securing European Protected Species Mitigation licences (EPSM) for at least one protected species would be desirable
* Comfortable designing surveys and quoting for work
* Full driving licence and use of a vehicle (long term hire can be arranged if necessary)
